To replace the bolt you'll need to remove the broken bolt that is still in the head. To do this you need to drill a hole in the center of the bolt. And then you'll need to use a bolt extractor to screw the broken bolt out. than you can install a new bolt.

Where can I get the extractor? Thank you

  • Jerry Martin Jun 03, 2013

tHE EXTRCTOR IS ALSO CALLED A EASY OUT. yOU CAN BUY IT AT THE AUTO PARTS

  • Jerry Martin Jun 03, 2013

Take the bolt with you and show it to the guy at the counter. He can sell you the drill bit and the easy out that will work for your bolt size.

SOURCE: 1998 Saturn SL idler pulley broke off and bolt is stuck in engine

The idler pully can be removed without removing the engine. I have replaced mine in my 97 SL2. As to the bolt breaking off, that is strange. I assume that if the bolt broke off, then the idler pully also fell off. If I remember, the space is somewhat limited, so getting a removal tool in there could be very difficult, especially if the bolt is flush with the mounting hole. That doesn't sound like a fun project. If bolt protrudes, maybe you can get some vise-grips on it and turn it out.

SOURCE: need to replace broken lug bolt

If you have room behind the broken lug you can usually drive it out with a good smack of a sledge hammer. To re-install, use a stack of washers between the nut and flange and draw the lug into position. (plenty of oil on threads to avoid galling)

The procedure of replacing a broken power steering pulley

You don't say which vehicle? The psp is fitted in a similar way as the alternator, that is, either two bolts underneath or a long through bolt to mount the unit to the engine, and then a third bolt to adjust belt tension. Else, the unit is bolted rigidly to the engine and the belt is tensioned by a separate pulley.
However, if you are going to take the unit to a garage to replace the broken pulley, why not let them do the whole job?

Broken dipstick engine oil

Shouldn't be to hard. Find where the sleeve is connected to the side of the engine. Usually one bolt. Remove the bolt. Remove dipstick sleeve from your engine. Then you can use a wire hanger from the other end to push it up. Or down which ever is easiest..

Tensioner bolt broke off

The first thing you need to do is to think about why the bolt broke in the first place. Was it being turned in the wrong direction? Or was it just really corroded? I've seen mechanics who've been in the buisness many years turn a bolt the wrong way. Anyone can do it. Is any of the bolt sticking out? If so get some "KROIL" it is a release agent of the highest quality. If you can't locate Kroil brand then use something like liquid wrench and spray the bolt right where it goes in. Let it sit then spray it again. I would probably heat the block right next to the bolt with a heat gun if I could do that safely (ie nothing will catch fire). The heat is to expand the junction between bolt and engine block. Then spray the KROIL on the bolt again. Grab the end of the bolt with vicegrip locking pliers to get it out. Make sure to get them on there as tight as you possibly can, and make sure you're turning it the right way to get it out. If the bolt is broken off below the surface you should still spray it with KROIL, but you'll need to drill a hole down the exact center of the broken off bolt down far enough to allow an "easy out." An easy out is a special tool that that has super coarse opposite direction threads that turns in tighter into the bolt as you use it. As you try to turn the easy out further into the bolt, you're actually unscrewing the bolt from the engine block. You'll want to make sure and measure the length needed for the replacement bolt, and take a piece with you to the store to be sure to get the right thread - metric or standard - coarse or fine. And be sure to figure out why the bolt broke in the first place. Good luck

'88 Samuria.....OK....got the shifter out, but can only see tiny pieces of what probably WAS the bolt end. What do I do now?

Remove the lower four bolts (hope you did not lose any broken pieces into the trans.) and holding the part in a vice, remove the broken bolt and the nose piece that broke off. You may have to use a little extra force to get the new special bolt all the way in due to some damaged threads; put some sealer on the gasket and refit

Top bolts on dash broke

If it's bolts that are broke you can get some E-Z outs that you can drill into the broken screws to get the screws out. These are used for broken bolts in your engine but you can get extractors to help take out almost any size of bolt. You can also ever so carefully chisel off the head of the bolt and try to pull the dash out and then use some vice grips or a smaller socket to pull out the damaged bolt heads. I wish you the best of luck.
