Hi. Recently both upper half and lower half of the screen were flickering and eventually a half would turn completely black. This is after about 1 hr of use. I have been told I need to replace the Y - main & both Upper & Lower Y-Buffer PCB's. 3 boards. At a cost of around $800 AUD. I was told by the repair man that it was not worth it. Whilst I have already bought another TV, I really do like this one particularly due to the ambilight. I was hoping there may be somewhere to purchase 2nd hand parts etc to make it worthwhile to keep for my children to use for DVDs, Xbox etc. Otherwise I suppose it goes to the scrap heap. I am also aware that Philips no longer sell to Australia. I have seen quite a few Philips buffer boards for sale on Ebay but I have no idea whether they are compatible with my Philips. Thank you for any advice. John
It sounds that there is some loose contacts to some connections to your Plasma display. Almost all plasma displays will have similar configurations to display circuits, will change only with the size of the screen. If you wish to get some details http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Products powered by electricity should be serviced or repaired only by experienced professional technicians. Any attempt to service or repair the product by anyone else could result in serious injury or death. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair. Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock. Instead, contact the nearest service centre.
Hi. Thank you for responding so quickly. I should explain that I am not technically minded at all in regards to TVs so there is no chance that I would ever consider repairing it myself. Whilst I appreciate your response, to be honest I do not understand it. I suppose what I am trying to do is find a cheaper way to fix my television. I have had an expert look at it and as I mentioned he said I had to replace certain parts (3 boards), so I dont understand why that would only be 'loose contacts' like you suggest? I would actually love it to be loose contacts only :) The service guy says its a waste of money repairing it but no other Teles in Australia have ambilight and Philips does not sell here so I would love to find out exactly what parts I need to buy and then give my father a go at it. Maybe you can get second hand parts? I would not know. Well dad used to fix electronics on helicopters so surely that counts for something!

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
