1 year old Durabrand PDV-705. Worked fine but now only plays in black and white on internal display. Color works on external TV. Tried turning up color saturation and color controls. no diff. Is the internal screen fried or is there a workaround? (Sorry about the duplicate post-couldn't figure out how to edit my other...) Thx
Screen works you get a black and white image. The colour stage works you get colour output to TV So my guess is the ribbon connector from motherboard to screen is loose or adrift. Is this something you fell you can fix or 'know a man that can?'
Well Bob - if the connex are firm both ways- this seems to imply either a broken within the ribbon
or a board component failure- and you guess is better than mine - I don't a one of these to play with.
But you are right the whole item is sold as 'disposable' just like kettles and toasters.
So playing with it cant make it worse.
I notice that quite a few of these are coming on the site with the same fault, so it is perhaps an inherent problem with that model.
In which case you could return it, as not fit for the purpose - or check the website to see if there is a call back on that model.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll see if it is something I can access (without having to break the plastic casing... ;-) and let you know...
OK - opened the bezel and screen case - got to the back of the LCD where the ribbon connects. No free motion or looseness at all in the end of the ribbon that connects to the electronics. I wiggled both ends around with the player on but no change at all in the screen. The other end is hard to see as the ribbon fits between an edge and a metal backing to the LCD panel - I am a bit reluctant to pull the metal casing of the LCD apart for fear that it will be more seriously damaged. It appears that component is not intended to be serviced. But I suppose I could. BTW there is a bit of exposed high voltage in circuit board to the side of the LCD. Guess how I found that out?? ;-) That little lithium ion battery can give quite the jolt under the right circumstances.. Anyway if you have any more ideas let me know.. Thx - Bob
