I can't unlock the carriage on my old Olympia typewriter

Christine: According to VintageTypewritterShoppe.com: "Underwood portables have a simple carriage catch on the left side right below the carriage. Move the carriage to the right a few inches to disengage. Remington portables have two systems. Early portables require the sliding out of the platen shaft/knob on the right end of the carriage. The lock lever is located on the left end of the carriage and is spooned against the left side carriage release lever. Newer Remington's(Model 5/Streamliner/Deluxe) have a small lever on the left end of the carriage located in the same spot as the earlier models. There is a little ball on top of the lever. Push the lever to the rear to disengage the lock."

needs ribbon lift adjustment

Some are under the typewriter carrige either left or right side , locks the carraige in place for shipping, also some are down along the side of the keyboard....

The carriage is touching the cavers it need the flat rubber washers that are between the case and the frame look at the bottom of the typewriter remove the screw slip in a new washer and replace the screw do the same on the other side

Usually when this happens part of the case or carriage is loose or bent. Move it back and forth and try to see what it is dragging on.

Hi:

Parts are not going to be available for that typewriter anymore. That means you have to get creative. Either go to your local hardware store or a Home Depot. and look for rubber bumpers that you might affix to the bottom of something to prevent it from scratching a surface. Yous should be able to find something like that in the hardware section.

A General Ribbon T6 or equivelent will work.

Mant portables have a lock to hold the carriage in place while in the case, on the rt. or left sides below the carriage.
