Lexmark X2480, unable to bypass request to print alignment page. Followed instructions from tech support but still asks me to print and then scan alignment page over and over after I installed new ink cartridge. Tried 2nd cartridge, same thing. Sent 3 messages to tech support to return machine for replacement/fix, no reply. Thanx for any advice.
Here is the way I bypass the alignment when I get a new cartridge: When the screen comes up that is asking for it, it does not have the option to "cancel" the printing of it. I just take the paper out of the printer and press "print". Since there is no paper in it, it cannot print. This will make the same screen come up again, but this time it has the "cancel" option. Now, every time I want to print something out, the screen that wants to print a alignment page comes up, and I just click on "cancel" - after that I can do my printing. This is a bit annoying, but it saves me some ink.
To solve the
printing problem..
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the
bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the
cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead
horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure
the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the
carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not
installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the
contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and
wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than
one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap
them correctly into the printer.
Hope this help. Please

Thanx for your thorough reply, but have carefully cleaned both cartridge discharge ports and the carrier in which it goes and this is not the problem--even tried another new ink cartridge. I am resolved to believe it is a defective machine, but in spite of 3-messages to tech support asking for a RMA number to return the machine they have failed to give me one or okay a return to Lexmark. I bought the machine from CircuitCity and cannot return it there as the store is closed.
