How to remove drum from any washing machine?

This doesn't fall under repair - more like "recyling". An old washer drum makes an ideal burn barrel (especially with all the "airholes" on the side & with two rebars on top it also makes a fantastic beach boiler for lobster. I've gone to the local salvage yard & I'm welcome to it. I just can't get seem to get it out. I managed to remove the cabinet, clips and plastic agitator. But I can't figure out how to remove the inner agitator to get the drum out. Can you help me?

I was told the notched nut would unscrew counter clock wise. The arrow indicating how it turned was wore off. I am using a wrench that I cut off the end so it would fit inside the drum. Working at it all morning into afternoon. Still no luck..GE model #WCXR1070AWW

With the agitator out look near the bottom for a large flat nut with notches in it. a correct spanner wrench will engage this notched nut so you can unscrew it and the tub should come right out.

These nuts can be superglued in place. Making them very tough to unscrew. Try soaking with acetone (nail polish remover).

I actually ended up having to cut through the nut with an angle grinder! Once this was done it was very easy to remove the drum.

When it spins out it makes a really loud noise

It's more than likely the lower drum bearings. The sad news is they used to be covered by a ten year warranty that Sears took away because they were going broke changing the drum out. So if your washer is less than 10 years old the warranty will not save you and it will cost you between 2 and 3 hundred dollars. High efficiency washers, no matter the brand are pure junk. I've paid for mine twice in repairs. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Good luck and maybe it's just something stuck under the disk at the bottom.

Washing machine making a knocking sound

On this washer the problem is the washer drum rear bearing is worn out, a common problem and often caused by not using the correct detergent for a front loader, detergent is very corrosive, so special types are used in front loads to prevent soap residue corroding the drum bearing. Once the bearing go out then the struts that cushion the drum during the spin quickly follow.

ASKO 7000 series washer drum stopped rotating. Smelled of burning. Could not turn the drum by hand. Guessing a burned out bearing as electronics and pump still work and are trying to turn steel drum. ...

check inside your washer for nails or other objects . I already seen a nail fall down in one of the basket holes and the nail stuck into the outer tub not allowing the basket to spin. If you dont see anything in the basket holes, then it is your bearings. The burning smell is coming from your belt. The motor is spinning but your basket is not. It is cheaper to buy a new washer. In ordered to fix your washer you have to rebuild it. The bearing are built into the outer tub of the washer.

Have a Maytag washer LAT9635AAE. It fills with water and does not proceed. The timer seems to move the dial around but doesn't engage the washing functions. At first I thought it was simply not...

Remove the timer and get the outer skin off of it. Twist the timer around and hunt for burn marks on the barrel. I suspect it is the timer. To get it off you pop the cap on the knob and under it is a keeper and spring you remove. Then the knob and skirt will come off and you can get to the screws which hold the timer to the consolethemobilian_29.png
If the timer turns out to be ok then the motor is suspect.
Note: This washer is well worth repairing. Anything out there on the market now is trash compared to this machine. Invest in repairing it. You will be glad you did.

The aggitator slips

t's supposed to be that way. If you could pull it up whenever you wanted, what would keep it from flying off during a wash cycle? The agitator is loosened from a bolt underneath the wash basket. Do not try that or you could damage the washer. Only a repairman or someone who has worked on washers should do that. Only if you had an article fall apart in the washer (a rug, feather pillow, etc.) should that area truly need cleaning. Call any GE repair shop. If this is under warranty and you have ( as shown ) the model #...........a repair inspector can fix this washer free. Have all your place of purchase documents with you. The agitator's movement back and forth is important for the cleaning of your laundry. If it doesn't function properly, your clothes won't be as clean as possible. If your agitator does not move, moves only in one direction or its movement is very weak, you will probably need to remove the agitator. Furthermore, in order to inspect the tub for leaks, the clutch assembly, the splines, or to remove the spin drum, you will have to remove the agitator.

My washingmachine stopped working and gave off burning smell. How can I determine if its the motor thats burned out or something else?

Had one similar to this about three years ago. That burning smell would be the belt that runs the washer. Relatively easy to repair. You'll need make and model number to get the right replacement belt. Once you have it, get up under it, remove the old belt and put the new one on the same way. The belt will go around the pulley on the bottom of the washer drum, the motor and the tensioner. This should solve your problem. If you need more help, please let me know.
