1) Windows won't have the audio driver. Reinstalling from the Windows disk is futile.

How does this happen? How does the audio driver file seemingly disappear?
Windows...........ya gotta' love it.

Windows had a 'barin f@rt', and lost the address to the audio driver file.

2) Uninstalled audio driver.
This really is an excellent approach, but only works some of the time.
Kind of 'slaps Windows around' a little bit.

So there is two strikes down.
No big deal really.

Just download AND install the audio driver needed.

Scroll down a little. Click on the blue Down Arrow next to -
Audio (4)

Here you see in the list, the audio driver files listed.

IMHO you have the wrong numbers.

As you can see the first file listed is version - 6.0.1.5678 (A02)

The second audio driver file listed is 5.1.0.5548 (A00)

As you can see you need the first audio driver file listed.
It is for Windows Vista, and both the 32-bit version, and 64-bit version.

Go to the right of 6.0.1.5678, and click on the blue Down Arrow.
(Or Download File in blue)

Make SURE there is a Green dot in the small circle, to the left of
Single-file download

Click on Continue in the blue oval 'button'.

A small window will come up -
Opening REALTEK_ALC888-HD-AUDIO-FOR-_A02_R19847...

Click on Save File.

A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to download all the way, then DOUBLE-click on it.

At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on Next, Next, and Finish.

(At the second small window, DO NOT change anything.
Windows knows where to put the audio driver file.
Just click on Next)

When finished restart your computer.

If you do not have the Volume icon in the taskbar (System tray at bottom of screen -Right), let me know.
I'll detail how to get it back.

(Looks like a Speaker icon)

IF, this does NOT bring the sound back, you need to install a sound card.

OS xp doesnt come with sound drivers. U have to install sound drivers for ur system. see if u have it in ur motherboard cd, or else u have to download.
OS vista & win7 comes with sound drivers already.

Try to check the windows audio services in windows service, and make automatic, then try to check if not working then go to device manager and uninstall audio drivers and restart the computer and give some to to automatically install the driver then audi will work in case not working then refresh the driver from device manager and try to download and reinstall the windows audio driver then windows audio will work fine.

how to download compaq presario c702 sound driver for window xp ?

Windows 7 is an beta version. you cant find drivers for that beta version yet
