I have the same problem. System error (zoom) when connecting to PC and nothing to do if I changed the memory target. The error continues!! It's the 3rd time I use that camera!

I changed the memory chip and it worked just fine. something had happened to the chip causing my camera not to be able to function properly. no hammer required! :)

Hi,
Do one thing Go to the menu of the tv. Select Picture setting and then select Advanced video and select Zoom mode. In zoom mode select Wide. If you hve already done this ,
Then select the Overscan option in the same menu page and select it as ON .
Next one select Auto zoom in the same menu page and select it as OFF.
Make sure the scene mode dial is correctly "clicked" into a choice. You could also try this...remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.
Windows updates change the registry. Sometimes this means our connected equipment no longer works. Now it is time for you to start using a separate card reader.
Does the tv menu or tv remote have a zoom option? It may also be labeled as "aspect ratio" or the like. I suggest trying to find this and pressing the buttons a couple of times until you get a satisfactory image.
Good luck!
Direct downloads from camera to PC are heavy on battery capacity. Remove battery and either replace it with a new one or a fully charged one (note that Olympus recommend Lithium or rechargeable LiON batteries). Press the shutter release once to make sure that it is not in sleep mode.
Make sure that the camera is in "Data Transfer" mode. Now start the PC, plug in the USB cable at the PC end, and then connect the camera to the PC. Use the eject/remove function to disconnect the camera. Now switch the camera to one of the taking modes. Try to zoom the lens. If it is still permanently out then you have a trip to the dealer.
If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.
If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.
The aspect ratio (zoom) button on the cable remote had been changed. On Brighthouse the # button toggles through the zoom settings. It's not a tv issue, it's a cable fix.
Go to the "Add and Remove Programs" in your Control panel.
Do a "Change" and do the 'repair program' utility. That should fix it, good as new. If that is not a possible option, try uninstalling. (if there is no "Change" and 'repair program') then Run the normal uninstall program.
My experience in this issue is that you should never put too much trust in an SD card :-/ It seems to me that all cards are prone to fail once in a while, and my best advice is to keep spare ones handy. A dedicated SD card reader is a good thing, too...
