It was bought from a yard sale earlier today. Its previous owner said that it works perfectly fine. It didn't come with a memory card (SD) or batteries. Some fresh batteries were put into it as well as an SD card. The SD card was borrowed from a Nintendo DSi portable game system, and held pictures before it was put into the camera. When the playback button is pressed, those photos will show on the screen with nothing appearing to be wrong with them. The menu and all of its features are accessible as well. But, if you want to take a picture or record a video, all that the screen shows is a light pink color. If you press the shutter button and the camera is set to flash, it will flash, but the picture doesn't come out any different than the screen.

Are those NiMH batteries? Have you tried resetting the camera? If no standard way, just take out batteries for a few minutes, the more the merrier, let the tension build, and replace them. Try tapping on the lens area, it might loose something up. Best I can do, know it aint much ;] Good luck!

Can you play back pictures and is the quality of these ok ? If you can but there is no image in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty and needs replacing.

PER007 in solution #3 is correct.
I had the same problem with my CoolPix5400 and this resolved the issue.
