Toshiba satellite l505-s6946 not reading disks

Clean the cd/dvd with a laser lens cleaning kit. If that doesn't fix it then the cd/dvd drive will need to be replaced.

Toshiba Satellite L505-LS5014 made a popping noise and then turned off. It had done this 10 minutes before but this time it won't turn on. Any ideas on what's the problem and how to fix it?

The problem may be in the DC jack in the laptop, sometimes solder touch up or DC jack replacement is required. the computer will need to be dismantled down to the motherboard level to address this.

Toshiba l505 s6959 screen flicker

bluestang65c,

An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself.

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Vikuiti1/BrandProducts/secondary/optics101/

It needs an additional light source. The additional light source is a Backlight.
A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's used as lights.

Your Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959 Notebook PC, uses a single CCFL as a Backlight,

http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Toshiba/SATELLITE~L505-S6959/

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
(Average size is 2mm Thick. Length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height. 2mm is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

Your screen Inverter is going bad.

One example of a screen Inverter for your laptop,

http://nylaptopparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=98_101&products_id=779

The plastic 'frame' in front of your LCD screen, is the LCD Bezel Assembly. (Toshiba)
Behind it, and mounted at the bottom of the LCD Screen Frame, is the screen Inverter.

Pictorial guide in replacing,

[ Remove ALL power from the laptop. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery. Follow Anti-Static Precautions ]

This is a link to a free Service Manual,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-toshiba

Drop down to the subheading - Satellite A10 (A10 in blue)
Go to the 3rd line in this 'paragraph', (L350D), scroll across, and left-click on L500. (The L505 is part of the L500 series)

Ignore if you are aware of the following;
This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (L500) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

Toshiba laptop L505 won't turn on

Remove main battery and turn on, next! check the power supply for correct voltage, if okay! sub the ram out one out a time and power on and repeat. If still no result, the DC jack in the laptop is a common issue, suggest a professional to assess.

Need to see location of cmos battery on a toshiba satellite l505d

It's soldered to the bottom of the motherboard,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L505-L505D/remove-laptop-motherboard-3.htm

Scroll down to Step 23 , and click on the photo.

Main article,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L505-L505D/remove-laptop-motherboard-1.htm

NOTE*
You will be unsoldering a solder connection on a BATTERY.
Need to be good, or the battery could bl-ow up.

Make SURE you have no Static on your body, OR use an ESD wrist strap, and connect the alligator clip to a Good ground source. (Average cost is around $3 to $6)

I hope this is because the laptop will not keep the time, and date.
You CANNOT reset a BIOS password this way.

Toshiba's have a small capacitor in line, that stores a small residual amount of power. Enough to keep that BIOS password set, even if the CMOS battery is taken out for days, weeks, or months.

There are two SMALL copper pads that are shorted out BRIEFLY, with a jumper wire.

Toshiba satellite l505d-s5007 Toshiba satellite l505d-s5007 laptop. Need jumper or dipswitch identification to short out or switch to the bios password.

I don't think that's available on laptops; I've never seen it on Toshiba models. There is usually a small battery to save BIOS info and keep the clock going when the main battery is out. It's either under the keyboard or near the memory or wireless card compartment. Remove the main battery and leave the adapter unplugged. Open the compartments and look for a a connector with just a red and black wire connected to it - if you see it going to a coin cell, that's the one you want. Unplug it and wait ten seconds. Plug it in and put everything back together. If you got the right connector, your computer will probably go straight to BIOS and ask you to set the time and date.
