My dryer make a buzzing noise when push the start button but it doesn't start. It is a Kenmore dryer over 10 year old. Not sure about the model number.
My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob.
I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.
Open the door, push the little button in that the door triggers and put tape over it (masking works fine). While keeping the door open, push and hold the ON button while turing the inside dryer wheel itself and it should just start working fine. Same thing you might do for a record player.
I have found that the switch activated by the door close or turns on the interior light when open on is likely the problem. You may notice that if the door is open and you push on the start button, it will buzz. So if the door is closed and you get this buzz when pushing the start button, there is a problem with the door switch. The start button "thinks" the door is open, and therefore not start. The defective door switch needs to be replaced. At least highly likely.

I have the same problem that just happened moments ago with my Kenmore. It was working fine all day and on my last load I pushed the start button. It buzzed but didn't start and inside the dryer it had an odd smell. Anyone out there have a clue about this? Model 110.76712695
