My playstation 3 stays in the "standby mode" and does not turn on

If its an unwanted christmas present, I'm guessing its still under warranty, so call sony. They'll fix it for free. Your problem sounds a bit...irregular.

Does it blink yellow, if you leave it on too long it can get yellow light of death from the solder heating too hot then cracking or becoming uneven

Try resetting the video:

While the ps3 is off (solid red led) hold down the power button until you hear the SECOND beep, quickly release.

Same here. Just re-flowed it for the second time. Now when I hit the switch in the back it automatically turns on, ejected the game inside, beeped twice, then goes back to solid red. If I try to turn it on it just stays solid red.

first try video reset

when ps3 is in standby mode(red light)
press and hold the power button till you hear a second beep.

standby mode press hold power........"beep"......"beep"..release power button



then try rebuilding the database and the file system in recovery consol

to get to the recovery consol press and hold the power button when ps3 is in standby mode(red light) till you hear a double beep. sometimes the ps3 does a beep then another beep and goes back into standby thsi is fine just release the power and quikly press and hold it again till you get double beep.

like on my 80g system it goes like this

ps3 standby...press hold power.......beep .........beep........stanby again....release and hold power again.......beep .........double beep...release power now you should be in recovery menu.


then take it back as these steps will not void warrenty

hardware failure need to send back to sony if still under warrenty they will not charge you if not it cost $150 and you need to set it up with sony support.

try this:

1) turn off the PS2
2) unplug the PS2 and wait a couple minutes before plugging back in.
3) turn on PS2

If you are trying to run it on a PS3 console, Try to upgrade you'r PS3 console

Hello. There are a few causes for this. I will list acouple solutions for you.

1. Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.
2. If option 1 does not work call Sony because the video out chip has blown or come unsoldered.
