50 hp is a 4 cylinder powerhead.. blue band denotes 80s model engines.. my dads was a red band 69 model.. the red band stopped in the late 70s like 79 .. the wire harnesses are almost identical from 40 hp on up to about 80 or higher, just a heavier set of starting cables.. may need to check into used equipment.. might find something easier there.. check mwith a mercury dealer near you also..
serial number is what you need and try looking on the starter or the switch box ( square box with lots of wires on as they have dates on also ) take pictures of engine in and outside as if decals are original it will date it as well ! take to or email your nearest dealer with all info and they date your engine no problem !
