HP Photosmart all in one C3180

HP has region codes on the C3180 printers to jack up ink cartridges in Europe. You can set U.S. region code into printer and us less expensive (same) ink cartridge. HP black 334, color 343 do a 10 tab test on the printer by holding down cancel button and start color copy. this will print out region code. open print page, hold down ctl key and doublew click on the HP logo. enter these codes in the 5 boxes: 0229, 8572, 8308, 5992, 4000. The total box should read 27047. You printer will now accept US ink cartidge 92-black, 93 color from HP.

YES, YES I have exactly the same problem! A phoned with hp helpdesk in Hungary number of times and they promised solving my problem. I have got from my father the ink 92, 93 from US - I was happy with them, till I didn't want to install. Don't tell, they couldn't do it. The main problem, that it doesn't print the test page!!! And after all nothing to talk about! I made the procedure you mentioned above but it is helpless. It writes something that want to fix, but very quickly. I would be soooo grateful if you could help me. :(((((

My suggestion: Don't buy HP. I have the same region coding problem. All I want to do is buy HP ink, put it in my HP printer and print stuff. Too hard. I've wasted 30 pounds on ink and another 30 pounds on "support" phone calls to HP. Hopeless. I will never buy HP again. Waste of time and money.

Eleven years after HP Suck's comment. AFAIK HP has never made a refillable cartridge for the 3180. I have systematically tried to refill cartridges. The printer is rigged to waste the user's time and apparently rigged to defeat simple refilled cartridges too. When will the HP people bite the bullet and release code and refillable cartridges for the 3180 that makes it the beautiful jewel of a printer it could be?

Does this Apply to the C4180? I baught some HP 95 / 98 cartridges from the US and my printer does not accept them as it is European. I changed the country setting in the printer setup menu from Germany to US and still does not accept them.

Any suggestions?

Michael.

I have a HP Photosmart C3180 that I bought in the US and now trying to install UK cartridges, but it tells me that the cartridge is incorrect. How do I re-set the printer to accept the UK cartridges?

The reason behind this is the regionalization capability of your product. The printer sets its region/zone after printing a few pages with a particular ink cartridge, once the region/zone is set, the printer would only recognize ink cartridges that are bought from the region/zone it's set to. You can click on the link to determine the compatible cartridges that you may use with your printer.

Only certain cartridges are compatible with your product. This document lists compatible cartridges by country/region. Use one of the following methods to check which cartridges are compatible with your product.Click on the link below for more information.

I need to reset UK printer to accept US inks

I have the same issue. Called HP support and they were not able to change the region code.

I am complaint to HP trhough all possible ways, would suggest you to do the same. If we are loud enough, maybe they will rememebr what customers menas...

if I do not have a solution I am plannign on buy whatever other printers exist, with good quality that do not use this stupi solution.

One way to solve your problem is to use refill kits, as then you use the old cartridges with the righ region codes - so much for HP supporting us to buy original supplies...

Change regional code from europe to us for hp Photosmart C3180

Currently, it's a very convoluted process involving a phone call to HP tech support. Unless things have changed, you are also restricted to changing the region code 3 times over the lifetime of the printer. Having said that...see this page here at FixYa:

Regional Codes for Europe

Hi Dave,

I looked at the problem you have, I worked with HP before in All-in-one.
My personel advice is that please do not make any changes on your own.
The printer region can be changed only three times, so be carefull.

I suggest you to contact HP chat support, this support is free of cost.

Please click on the web link given below and select your product and start over with an online HP technician.

Have a great day!

How to change zone/region for HP Photosmart C3180

A RESET HAS TO BE DONE ON THE PRINTER. NO OTHER WAY POSSIBLE WITHOUT DOING A RESET. CALL UP CUSTOMER CARE. WAIT FOR A CALL FROM THE BACK END TEAM...THEY WOULD ASSIST YOU WITH IT WITHIN 24 HOURS. RESET WOULD BE DONE FOR REGIONALIZATION ISSUE. NOTE : ONLY 3 MAXIMUM RESETS POSSIBLE FOR THE UNIT.
