Choke problem with Honda HRU194 lawn mower

When the throttle lever is pushed down to "choke' postion the lever at the end of the cable doesn't lift the choke lever to close the choke. The choke lever can only be lifted (by hand) when I twist the black plastic choke knob on top of the carbie. If I do this and insert a spacer to keep the choke lever up - the engine will start. Can anyone assist please?

SOURCE: Rear skirt on lawn mower flips under when backing up

Sounds like the skirt is too long for the cutting height you are using, either raise the cutting height or shorten the skirt. Remember it's a safety guard for trash kicked up when mowing!

SOURCE: I have a Craftsman Push Rear Bag Lawn Mower w/

Your mower should definitely have an air filter whether it is paper or foam, and you should drain the oil from the bottom, not turning it over. turning it over can get oil in places where it shouldn't be and make it smoke or not run at all. It may need carburetor cleaning and spark plug cleaning or replacement, or the flywheel key may be sheared if it runs rough

SOURCE: Qualcast petrol 35s mower will only operate with

The chole is only ment to be used to prime the engine on cold start up, the engine is supposed to be run with the choke in the normally open position.

Honda hra 215 sxc mower- choke lever will not go far enough to get engine started - must be pushed manually - how to fix?

There should be a hex head screw holding the choke cable in place. Loosen the screw a little an move the choke all the way closed and pull lever on choke to the closed choke position and tighten the screw back. Just make sure it is not pulled so tight that the choke will not open back up. Hope this helps you.

What does the choke look like?

The choke is connected to the back of the carb, it closes off the air supply to produce an overly rich fuel mixture to aid starting, if it has a choke ( not all engines do ) there will be a mechanical arm clearly marked on the side of the carb, lawn mowers will normally have the choke operation on the throttle lever, if there is no choke decak on the throttle lever the engine may well have a reb primer button on the carb, or an automatic choke if not.

Thanks but my new model 450 doesn't have a blue choke like the others I have owned. This has a sngle lever and goes up to start and down to kill. I push it up, prime it,decompress and pull. It hits...

The start procedure is done on one red lever, as you say prime till the bulb is 3/4 full, push deco vave in, pull the red lever out against the spring and right up, this engages choke and part throttle, pull until it fires once, push red lever down to dissengae choke, then pull again until it starts, flick the throttle trigger to release the part throttle and bring the engine to idle,if all is correct it should start within three to four pulls, if not it needs tuning on the carb screws.

I have Honda self propel lawn mover and when I push the choke lever will go down from 1 and 2 setting and it gets stuck between 2 and choke.

Be careful here. New choke wires are expensive! spray white lithium grease into the choke assemply up at the handle, then follow the cable down to the engine, extend the choke cable inside the outer cable housing and try to get it lubricated white WD-40 or white lith gease. spary everything at the chole area with WD-40 OUTSIDE only - operate the choke manually and carefully a few times and git mowin!

Mine did same thing, need to manually adjust choke. If you raise hood and adjust your throttle you will see that when you press up to choke that it actually hits & pushed in choke. But when you back off if it is like mine the choke doesn't come off, so I manually pulled choke to off & mine started right up. I am still trying to find how or where cable came off for the choke to be adjusted by throttle lever. That is why I was on here looking for photo of engine.

You need to get some oil to drool down the cable on the inside if you can, it will free it up. Try blaster, the stuff works great. Some of the cables are just metal clad and the oil will penetrate right through it, but the plastic coated ones you have to get in from the top, hope this helps.

5HP Honda (HRU215) mower hard starting power loss

Either the choke isn't operating fully or there is some dirt in the carburettor. Check the choke first by putting the throttle lever full to the start position, the see if you can still pull the inner cable further at the bottom end. If you can, then you need to undo the clamp at the engine end and pull the outer cable back a bit before reclamping it in the new position. If that isn't the case, you will need to dismantle and clean the carburettor - probably a job for your local dealer..
