Freezer Drawer Stuck

Hi! Our subzero's freezer drawer is closed shut and can not be opened. I have tugged on it and tried to pry it open with several plastic utentils to no avail. I can't help but wonder if it has frozen shut. The ice maker stopped working a few weeks ago. Since we have another freezer, this was not a big "hurry to fix" item. Well, a few nights ago, I noticed that a few cubes had fallen. I haven't reached into the freezer in a couple of days, so I am not aware if the ice maker contined making ice, and somehow overfilled and froze the drawer shut? I turned the freezer off about 6 hours ago, hoping that if it is frozen, the ice will melt and the drawer open. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks for you solution! Yes, that's exactly what happened with mine. It took almost 8 hours of it being turned off before I could tug it open. And it was frozen EXACTLY as you say yours was. But, thankfully, I didn't have the seal problem you did. I talked to one of the experts here at FixYa, (SolutionGuy...he's great) and he told me I probably need to replace the valve that allows the water to flow to the icemaker (it's above the fridge behind the vented area). It's about $50 and I can get it online. I did remove the icemaker to make sure it stopped filling. And with that, no leaks from the valve, so I think I'm going to replace the icemaker first. Good luck with yours. Our house has been sold, and I don't think I'll want this model in our new house!

Our 550 bottom freezer drawer froze shut earlier this week and the motor made an unusual sound, like it was working too hard. Two of us eventually were able to open the drawer to find that it had frozen shut due to a leak which filled the ice tray solid and then adhered to the actual door, freezing it shut. We emptied the fridge and freezer, turned the control dials down to 0, but neither the motor nor the light would go off. We finally killed the circuit breaker to get the appliance to shut down. It's cleaned and defrosted and we noticed that the gasket has torn in three places, two on the fridge door and one on the freezer door. The freezer door could be from our tugging, but the refrigerator door is normal wear and tear. We filled the tears with some kind of putty and when it is dry we will start everything up again. This is not the first problem of this nature we have experienced with our subzero 550, but it is the most dramatic. Each previous time we have called a repair man out and he has been unable to fix it.

Freezer drawer on Kitichen aid french door stuck shut. Been of for 24 hours still won't budge.

tough question
by the look of the picture it should not have that problem

something jammed or fallen on both openings
that stop doors from opening
call a fridge repairer first
those doors cost a lot to replace
maybe the fridge guy can you undo the top hinge of the french doors

if the freezer draw handle is broken you might need his help with that anyway

Sub zero freezer drawer frozen shut

Subzero freezer: We had all our drawers stuck, including the ice drawer. We turned off the refrigerator, took all the drawers out and defrosted the rails with a hair dryer. The ice drawer was misaligned, so we reset the allen screws on the left to be the correct width. All better!

My freezer door is stuck and refuses to open!

May be iced up . Gently hit side of drawer then the other . Lift up on drawer . If after many tries this way the only other hope is to unplug the fridge and keep trying till it lets go. You might try prying the gasket and applying a blow dryer . Keep moving the dryer so as not to get one spot too hot.

We have the bottom drawer freezer, top french doors, 3 months old, freezer will not shut all the way and now after door open beep has gone off for an hour the whole unit has gone dark

Make sure nothing has fallen behind the freezer drawer or is hitting the top of the freezer to prevent it from closing. Also check that the tilt open front is in the closed position. If nothing is blocking the drawer the gear wheels that support it may not be in the right position. See Owners Manual for instructions about removing/reinstalling the drawer. When you get the drawer to close you may have to unplug the power cord for 30+ seconds to get the unit to reset and restart.

Subzero freezer drawer left partially open- went into shutdown. This has happened before, and there was a trick- like turn the freezer control to 1 for twenty-four hours, then up to 3 for twenty-four...

unit is most likely frosted over. bets thing to do is turn control for freezer to off for 24 hours, put down some towels for the water and prop the drawer open at least 6 inches. Then turn back to normal setting and allow 12 hours minimum for normal tenperature

Bottom drawer does not properly close

Okay, I fixed it for now. The design for this bottom freezer drawer is not good. What happened was most likely that my son slammed the door, and it bounced and was slightly open. Overnight, ice started to form all over the compartment, including inside the drawer guides. Some ice was probably obstructing the drawer glide from sliding shut.

What I did, not thinking this was the solution, was to prop chairs against the drawer to close it while I searched for answers on the Internet. In the meantime, some of this ice must have refrozen in the closed position (due to the weight of the chairs). When I went to check it later, I had a little trouble opening the drawer. I gave it a hard yank and some small frost flew off, as I opened the drawer.

It was not easy sliding it due to the frost. I then moved it out and in until it felt smooth, and finally closed the drawer and it stayed in the shut position.

Kids are instructed to close the drawer gently and visually check that it is sealed. There is also an air passage between the refrigerator unit and the freezer so that when you close the double french doors, some air pushed to the freezer section and momentarily pops the drawer open. You should make sure that the drawer closes before leaving the kitchen. If you are on vacation, prop chairs to make sure both the freezer drawer and the french doors stay closed. This is important if you're in an earthquake area as a small tremor could open the doors and you'll get a fire when the lights stay on and burn through the wiring (as others have noted).

Kenmore bottom freezer 795.75092402 freezer doesn't open

After several hours working and moving the door, I was able to slide open the door. Found out that the ice maker was leaking and the water was in the bottom an it frozen and that was stopping the door to open.
