TV was struck by lightning

I am almost certain it was struck by lightning. Just wondered if there may a fuse to replace that I could check, or is it trash now.

  • Anonymous Mar 22, 2009

TV was struck by lightening. I have a blue and yellow shading to the left of the images. I was told by someone who had the same problem that it is just a fuse that needs to be replaced and it's about 20 bucks for the part. I cannot find the name of that fuse anywhere though.

If it was struck by lightning, the surge would completely fry the insides of your TV. Your TV probably won't work anymore and you may have to consider replacing it. Some TVs have accident warranties so something like this could be protected, but if not, you will have to purchase a new one.

Can't find a fuse replacement...

We can't predict which components have been damaged due to lightning. Sometimes, a fuse only, otherwise more other components might have damaged. Anyway, if fuse should blow out, surely there will be any more reason. You should find it out first, before replacing the fuse. If not, more damage can be occur. Check for any shorted components, diodes, capacitors etc: at its main power supply regulator board. Be sure that there is no other defect occurred.

How do I trouble shoot a tv struck by lightening ?

That is a tricky question, lightning can cause minor to severe damage. If the TV is completely dead, the power supply board will be the first order of things to check, if fuse is open chances are there will be damaged parts and open foil. If fuse blows, board replacement would be the next step, however the risk is will it work, lightning may take 1to 3 boards for example and the unfortuneate thing is you must sub boards until it works.

No power. it is completely dead. wondering if it got struck by lightning.

Nine out of ten microwave ovens are protected to a degree by a fuse. This fuse is usually located near or right at the rear of the unit, accessible by removing the outer shell. This is not something one with no knowledge of electricity and electronics should attempt to do, however, it's a fairly simple repair for a shop. The problem is finding one you feel you can trust not to rip you off for an expensive repair when all they had to do was check the continuity of the fuse and replace it.

Hi. I was wondering if there is any way to repair my T.V. It quit working after our house was struck by lightning. Un able to get it to turn on. Is there any fuses or relay that can be checked or...

If you have electronics experience then you can check the power supply board for fuses or damaged components.

Most TV repairers will give you a quote for the repair at little or no cost so have your TV examined before scrapping it.

Lighting struck the apartment about a week ago, tv was plugged in when lighting struck apartment. Tv does not turn on anymore.

Best to take it to a repair centre as lightning damage can cause either minor fault such as an internal fuse blown or major problems that would make it uneconomical to repair. Ask for an estimate for the cost to repair.

Struck by lightning and won't power up

WOW!
Warranty voider there.
Hate to see a $1,000 TV go down the toilet.
If your lucky, you can try checking the fuses inside the TV.
The lightning may have taking out only your power supply board, shopjimmy.com may have replacements for about $100. But, I can't tell you for sure that will fix the problem.
You may have to take to a repair shop to find out for sure.
Good Luck
