Washing Machine won't do anything and is full of water

I was washing a fairly large load when I noticed the machine had stopped. It's a Maytag Atlantis that we bought from a ReUse store and so I'm not sure on its age. Anyway, when I went to check it out I noticed a electrical burn smell and when I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it still wouldn't work. Any ideas?

Check to see if the tub is free to move in at least one direction or the drain pump for blockage from a small item of clothing. It's best to wash small items in a laundry net bag when mixing with large items to prevent one from getting pushed over the top of the inner tub and either blocking the pump or jamming the tub. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

SOURCE: Burn Smell (electrical) from my GE WPSE4200A0WW

We have the same problem, and found out the the electric motor is running very hot. Replacing the motor seam to cure the problem, but the motor is not inexpensive. $200 to $350.

SOURCE: water will not shut off in washing machine

Check to load size selector switch, sounds like tube came off of it. The tube goes from switch to bottom of tube, tells machine what size load and when to turn off water.

Washing Machines will not rinse or spin

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.
What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drivewashing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

What causes a washing machine not to drain and spin?
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.

Water seems to be leaking from the bottom of my Maytag washing machine. Machine set for a large load. Water stopped, I added the detergent and then the soiled laundry. I went to get other laundry I had...

unplug washer. pull washer to you, have someone tilt the washer back and get a flash light and look for water spots on water pump, your drain hose, could be aclanp or just a hose we hope.

I moved my washer and didn't notice how the hoses were connected. Is the hot on top or bottom? Thanks

There should be markings on the washer near the inlet valve that will have a "H" or "C" for hot or cold. If not, hook the hoses up and run cold water only. If the water comes out hot, you will know that the hoses are crossed. It won't hurt anything to run the machine this way.

Whirlpool GSQ963ILL0 top load washer. Stopped dead in middle of agitate cycle. I fear I overloaded it. Now just sitting, full of clothes and water, and won't do anything. Any advice?

Hi jim_zervas,

Firstly, unplug the machine. Then first thing to do is remove the clothing, and bucket the water out. Then run the machine again.

Let me know what happens?

Kind Regards

I was running a load on cold and it stopped on the light setting. The bowl is full of water with the clothing, won't drain, and isn't responding. What should I do?

You need to check the pump, the best way would be to take the machine outside and to disconnect the hose to the pump, that will allow the machine sensor to reset, you need to check for an obstruction in the pipe feeding towards the pump.

Water fill, discharge and noise problems

to reset the water level you have to turn the knob all the way over as far as it will go and then come back to large load.

Leak from maytag top load coin machine during spin drain cycle only

Possible that you would have a tub seal leak if it is only noticable during spin cycle. Possible that it "drips" slightly while in agitation, but not enough to notice it. While in spin mode you have a lot more parts moving as well as a lot more water pressure on the seal itself. Pump could also be leaking, but highly doubtful since it would leak a constant amount at all times. Good Luck!!! Jim
