The bluetooth device drivers of your laptop may not be updates. Browse Dell's website and download and install the latest drivers for you specific model. Also try to connect witout authentication and see if it works that way.
Download and install the drivers from manufacturer website. If you are unable to recognize the device specific drivers then i would suggest to use the driver scanning tool, it will search for the drivers online and will show a list of of device specific updated drivers. what operating system?
are you using usb port?
have you tried more than one usb port?
if so usb port drivers get corrupted in windows xp and xp media center alot. my suggestion is reinstall the chipset driver.
@Enquiry: It's a USB 2.0 pen drive, which might not backwards support USB 1.1 without drivers. Many computers have USB 1.1 out one end of the case (back) and USB 2.0 out another (front).
