Webroot Spyware Question
Hi kn21_83
Your SpySweeper program functions by viewing incoming programs requesting access to your computer, referencing them to a built-in definitions file that updates regularly, and granting permission or red-flagging potential spyware programs. So, the definitions file is very important for the program to work properly.
I recently had a customer's computer display the same error message, and the way I was able to work-around it and make the SpySweeper program work properly was to uninstall it completely, ensure that there are no other anti-virus programs that might interfere with SpySweeper's install (if you have norton for example, manualy disable it for the duration of the install), and download the most current version from the internet rather than your disks that came with it.
Now, there could be other things involved, such as a malicious program interfering with how SpySweeper functions. In that scenario, restoring your OS is usually the fastest method of restoring functionality to your machine. Hopefully it is not a virus infection, but if you run out of ideas to resolve the issue a restore is a simple fix that guarantees success.
