Washer smoke during spin cycle...

Could this be the motor?

It is possibly the motor, but more likely a bad transmission. If the washer agitates, the motor is working OK, but in spin cycle, it turns the transmission the opposite direction, and the spin clutch on the transmission is likely froze up. The burning rubber smell is just that. The motor is turning, but the tranny won't allow the belt to turn it, thus burning the belt.

SOURCE: Squealing noise during spin cycle

The spin cycle activates the fast mode on the motor, squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

SOURCE: Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

My washer was smoking during the spin cycle what could the problem be.

hi Bill.
The pump may be belt driven, motor driven or have its own electric motor. A burning smell coming from the washing machine during or after the spin cycle can indicate that the drain pump has become seized, preventing it from turning.

GE front load washer model number WBVH6240HWW SERIAL NUMBER RM200099T spins freely by hand but started smoking and belt behind looks fine. What could be the problem. Before the smoke started when spin...

Hmm... Kind of difficult to say for sure. Does your inner spin basket wiggle up and down? If so, you've got a main bearing going. Also, put it in a spin cycle for a minute or so and then try smelling the windings on your main motor. If they smell burnt, you'll need to replace the main motor. Also, one last thought, check to see if your drain pump overheats. I say this because the drain pump is active during the spin cycle and a bad drain pump can sound extremely noisy and start overheating.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Washer started to smoke during spin cycle then a cracking noise began after that.

You may just have a defective drive belt. The motor itself will smoke under certain failing circumstances. Can you give me a model # ?

Washer make noise doing spin cycle smell smoke make the power cord warm to touch

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site Joe. Usually, if a washer makes noises during spinning, it means the drive basket is broken. Make sure your pulley's are not sticking and rubbing the belt. This causes the basket to be unstable during the spin cycle. As far as the smell of smoke, try checking the belt and make sure it is not worn or loose. Inspect the motor to check for noises, grinding, or smoke. Your transmission may be burning up. Usually, the cord will remain warm, but not hot. The washer may be working extra if a belt is sticking or during the spinning process. If you have any other questions Joe, just let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

My washer will spin but very slowly. Motor and shaft spins out of washer.

Your problem sounds like the drum/tub drive clutch is worn. Especially if the motor operates fine and attempts to spin the tub. This model is a direct drive unit, no belts, so if the motor operates during the spin and drain cycles but the tub is barely moving, only two problems can cause this, bad clutch (which is engaged only during the spin cycles) or worn drive coupling on the motor. If the coupling were a problem, though, you would also notice sluggish or erratic agitation during the wash cycle.

Hope this helps

MOTOR SMELLS OF BURNT MOTOR WINDINGS. iS IT NORMAL

No, the pump works while spinning. The burnt smell is probably the belt, especially if your wife saw smoke. Did she put a big load in it at the time?

The belt will slip until the tub catches up with the motor. If there is a heavy load, it can burn the belt up. I would replace it. Make sure the idler pulley on the motor moves freely also.
