3f engine landruiser 3f engine thermostatat not openning in car when runnuing engine overheating took thermostat out put on the stove in a pot of hot water it opens why isnt it openning in the car and yet it opens in hot water on the hot plate in a pot??

If you have Radiator fluid and it overheats... most likely thermostat is stuck closed. Change thermostat. To test it remove the thermostat, put in a pot of water and boil on the stove you'll see it open it if won't bad... if you just replaced it .. my may have installed it backward. Either case test if all good, clogged radiator, if good then bad pump.

look some cars have two thermostats. or it could be your waterpump not circulating water. check the belt that drives pump. test your termostat! take it out. connect a thin long wire to the top and plop it in your kettle while boiling. or into a small pot of water on the stove. when it gets hot enough you will see it open. no a little bit but alot. you can also checks its opening temperature to the previous one make sure they exactly the same. good luck

Was the thermostat bad. To check it,put it in pot of water and boil on stove and see if it opens at 180 degrees,if it doesn't then it's bad.Are you sure water pump is circulating,doesn't have to leak to be bad.Is your radiator flowing good,not clogged and do you have a blown head gasket,check oil to see if it is milky.Is white smoke coming out of exhaust pipe.Also how does your spark plugs look like,not oily,I hope.

I had the same problem with my daughters truck. Changed everything finally changed the radiator, that was it.

The best way to test it is to remove the thermostat, and then boil some water in a pot, drop the thermostat into the water and watch how well the thermostat responds. It should open up to the full open position very quickly and if it is slow or lagging to open up, or it does not open fully then replace the thermostat.

the water is getting to hot even though its not overheating because you need a thermostat to trap the water in the radiator to give the water a chance to cool down then the thermostat opens and the cold wanter enters the motor and the hot water in the motoer enters the rad. to cool down. with no thermostat, this doesnt happen it just circulates and warm up to the temp it warms up to and is at the same temp in motor and rad then to hot will come out the overflow, as a resualt, you will wind up losing antifreeze then wont have enough antifreeze in your engine then will damage your engine.Put a thermostat in and a water pump. fix it right or you will damage your car.

put some water in , find out if you have a leak , ie, leaking water pump or pipe , is it overheating , is the oil got white sludge under the cap , a sign water is getting past the head gaskett , check out these items first

So what you need to address is the overheating issue.

First check radiator fluid while engine is up to operating temperature, add if neccessary.

Then check to make sure your fan is kicking on when your bike starts to get hot. If your fan doesn't kick on that is your problem. If your fan does kick on and your fluid is full move on to next step.

Remove thermostat from bike and test to see if its working properly. You can put the thermostat in a pot of water on the stove. Use a candy/meat thermometer to see at what temp the thermostat opens up. It should open at around 180 degrees.
If the thermostat doesn't open up before the water starts boiling that is your problem. Or you can just change it because your bike has sat for 1.5 years and now the thermostat probably is sticking causing no radiator fluid to enter your engine to cool it down.

if car doesn't run hot with no thermostat...you may be air-locking system when installing thermostat. I always fill the engine block up to the thermostat housing to make sure that engine is full of fluid ..then install thermostat...spring facing down..thenfill radiator making sure car is running so as not to air lock system ...run until top hose gets warm ,showing that your thermostat opened

It should open when it gets up to the opening temperature. Better way to test it is to put the water in the pot, hot from the tap, and put it on the stove. Put a thermometer in there too so you can monitor the temp. Drop in the thermostat, then heat the water on the stove. When it opens, note the temperature that the opening occurs at - then you can see if it's opening at the correct temperature. If you put it in boiling water, it'll open - but you won't know if it opened at the right temp.
