We recently had to reinstall Windows Vista onto our computer after we had to wipe our hardrive due to a messed up internet connection.
It was working fine until now, we shut off the computer and and turned
it back on, we logged back on and it said "The Windows Vista product
key you entered was not valid". ...We didn't enter a product key. I'm
currently using the computer under the "activate later" option.
Why is our computer suddenly acting up now? This is the third computer
we've had to buy and about the 5th time our computer has broken. It's
getting REALLY frustrating. We're running a Windows Vista Premium on an
HP Pavilion Entertainment PC.
You must activate your copy of Windows. Good old Micro$soft has Vista connect to the internet and automatically check to see if you have registered your copy. Since you had to reinstall, it now thinks you have a duplicate (and illegal) copy. So now you'll have to spend an hour or so on the phone to get another key.

if you have everything down load it from microsoft site onto a usb stick then burn it onto a disc
or contact microsoft and as for another disc giving all of the details so that they can check their records
You must have recently installed it and not put in a cd key? You should validate it by entering a valid cd key. Otherwise you would need to format and reinstall it with a valid copy of windows. Thanks, Lee
One way to wipe out your computer is by Getting a Vista Disk or Operating system of your choice. It has to be a full installation disk. Try WIndows 7!!! I use it its great..When you install a new OS(operating System) it gives you the option to reformat your disk drive which in turn wipe out all your data and give your computer a fresh clean install..first things first..get a Valid Copy of Windows of your choice. I recommend WIndows 7 Professional.
If you have no support discs & did not make a recoverty disc then you will have to contact the retailer you purchased the laptop from or Acer themselves. You should have documentation that will detail your product key though without this you may have issues getting the genuine copy of vista reinstalled. An alternative would be to buy a copy of windows 7 (if your laptop can take it) as it is far more stable & streamlined than Vista. or get a genuine copy of XP for cheaper.
Its probably also a good idea to take it back to the local computer guy & demand he reinstalls vista or gives you a genuine copy of XP. You can report him to the police for distributing illegal software too.
The problem is that the Palm desktop sfotware that works with the LD doesn't work well with vista so you need to do things a bit differently.
I copy files to sdcards if they are say movies or music in otherwords big or lots of files as it is faster. If I want to copy my documents to the ld hardrive simply plug the LD into the usb data cable and then turn on drive mode. Vista will now recognize your ld as just another flash drive or usb drive device. Copy the files to the hardrive or even the sdcard if its in the slot. You can create your own directories in either place so it is easy to know where your files are.
Yes Claudia you are right. When you wiped the hard drive you deleted the partition that contained the systen restore (factory restore). You will have to purchase a new copy of Vista. It will not contain all of the other programs that came with your computer originally.
Before you installed Windows 7 it clearly states that you have to back up your system before you install it on your hard drive.
Why didn,t you keeep windows 7, if I may ask? If you made a copy of it (which you had to do when you insatlled it) reinstall it and use it. Microsoft will let you purchase it for $50.00, which is a lot less that what it will cost you to purcase Vista Home Premium.
Hi,
If you have reinstalled windows, on this hardrive using a different computer, it would not load into windows on the nortino 6770, because the windows now has the settings compatible with the other computer not this machine.
To get around this problem, you would have to reinstall windows, by placing the haddrive in the 6770 only. To do this , you can either copy the contents of the windows cd , to a flash drive or pen drive ,and then connect the same to the USB port of the laptop.
The other way , is connect an external USB cd drive and install the same.
Uhh.. Thanks ****. I was afraid of that.
