It's not the TV from what I can tell. I would start complaining about it and say you want a brand new box. Not used. They tend to give out boxes from people who previously had them and either didn't pay their bill or moved and clean them up.
Look at the venting grills, you should see whit lights inside the set. If not, the backlight inverter board may have gone out or the power supply supplying the power to the inverter board may have gone out. Those are the two places to look first. I had the same problem once with my RCA television. It only happened on certain channels and didn't happen during commercial breaks. If I adjusted the volume on the tv the box went away, but came back shortly after. The problem ended up being some malfunction in the closed captioning. I turned it all off and changed the CC settings and never had the problem again.
The best way is to contact your service provider and ask them to trouble shoot guide you, there should be a way to reset or diagnose the receiver or if you prefer go back to the place you bought it and ask for a replacement, You should still have the manufacturer's warranty, check that as well.
Do you have a VCR or DVD recorder? If yes, set it to record what you are watching. After a "blackout" rewind the tape and review it. If there is a blackout on the tape, the problem is the sallite box, if not, it is the TV! QED
