Hi, Red light flashing on tv indicates that tv got some problem and shifted to protection mode to avoid further damage. If Lamp light is flashing on tv then check lamp that would be dead or broke, replace lamp to solve tv problem. If standby red light is flashing on tv then let me know how many times it is flashing after 3 seconds long pause to provide you helpful info. Thanks.
3 blinks is a lamp cover error, did you make sure that the lamp cover is screwed in tight? Also check the lamp cover for deformity, there is a problem with your model where the set over heats and melts the lamp cover a little causing it not to make connection with the lamp cover switch. Let me know if you find either of these problems? If not we can troubleshoot a little further.
First thing I would try is the micro switch on the lamp door. The doors get overheated and warp pushing away from the switch. The micro switch shows the tv an open door and wont let the tv start. Depending on the model you have the lights mean different things but on a WEGA rear projection LCD it ususaly means a board has failed. I just had this problem on a KDF-60XBR950. The C2 digital board was bad. Good luck
Check lamp cooling fan for dust blockage. It is located inside the back cover (10 screws) and is in a horizontal position above the lamp from the rear side. This is an air intake fan. The cooling fan you can see on the back panel is the exhaust fan that sucks out the hot air. A clue is hot or melt marks around the lamp housing.
If the lamp cooling fan is blocked you'll get red flashing diagnostics light flashing. It's trying to say clean me so I can keep the new lamp cool. Sony is silent on this in it's manuals. I'm guessing they don't care because is causes lot's of parts business!
I learned all this after replacement lamp burnt out after 1 week. My lamp cooling intake fan was found blocked and wasn't spinning. I saw the exhaust fan working and thought all was ok, not even knowing there were more fans. Some models even have another fan inside the optics blocker. I didn't take mine apart that far.
