Usually Sony Camcorders are designed to turn off after 5 minutes of non recording. If you want to disable without recording like when you try to use the Camcorder as webcam, please remove the tape from the Camcorder. If the tape/cassette is not inserted in the Camcorder, it will not go to standby mode. Thanks for understanding.. If you need any assistance, please ask me
this is how you disable autofocus for this camera, first set cam to camera mode.using touch panel screen:

Windows 7 sucks. Try "downgrading" to Win XP. I've had many problems with my new computer which had Windows 7, which have all been solved after I made the downgrading.

Just FYI, www.silentwitness.com has Sony modify the camcorders for use in mobile applications so they don't shutdown.
I have no cure for this, but I do know the stock models are programmed to do this to prevent overheating. It has to do a lot with the warranty. i.e. you have a one year warranty. The unit can't (without modifications) run 24x7. Said modification almost triples the price of the camera.
