My samsung rant phone has locked and is asking for a user 4 digit lock code. I never set one and I have tried using the last 4 digits of my social, last 4 of the phone number and it still is locked. Does anyone know what I can do without going to a repair shop and sitting there for hours before its repaired?

Please try resetting the phone to default settings and it should work. The default code should be the last 4 digits of your phone number unless you have changed it.
Restoring Phone Memory to Factory Conditions
This returns all settings to their factory default value and erases all user data including pictures, video, music, messages, contacts and downloaded applications stored on the phone.
From the home screen tap MENU.
Tap Settings & Tools.
Scroll th screen up and tap 7.Phone Settings.
Tap 5.Security, You're prompted to enter the lock code.The default lock code is the last four digits of your telephone number.
Enter the Lock Code and tap DONE. The security menu appears in the display.
Tap 5.Restore Phone. A prompt appears in the display asking if you wish to restore default settings and erase all user data including pictures, videos, music,messages, contacts, and downloaded applications stored on the phone.
Tap Yes to reset and restore default settings or tap No to return to the Security list.
If you know the lock code enter it then browse to the phone settings and under security turn the lock off. If you don't know it try the last 4 digits of your phone number, then follow the same directions.
Resetting the phone restores all the factory settings,including the ringer types,display settings and deletes all the contents.
Select Home and press Menu/OK > Settings > More... >Security and enter your lock code. The default lock code is the last 4 digits of your phone number.
Select Erase/Reset > Reset Phone.
Read the disclaimer, press OK(left softkey), select Yes and press OK.
You will be asked to confirm resetting the phone. If you are then sure you want all data erased and the phone reset to its factory default state, select Yes,and press OK.
If the phone is locked when you are trying to use it and it is asking for a lock code, the default lock code is the last 4 digits of the phone number on that phone. If that doesn't work then someone changed the code and the phone will need to be put on a different phone number so that the lock code will default back to the last 4 digits of that phone number.
Hard Reset will reset the phone to its factory settings and erase all data.

3. Scroll Up to More and press the MENU/OK key.
4. Scroll Up to Security and press the MENU/OK key.
5. Enter the lock code. For this example, press 7 to prompt one to fill in.
If you can’t recall your lock code, try using the last four digits of your wireless phone number. If this doesn’t work, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727.
6. Scroll Up to Erase/Reset and press the MENU/OK key
7. Scroll to Reset Phone and press the MENU/OK key.
8. Read the Warning and press OK (Left Soft key).
9. Scroll Up to Yes and press the MENU/OK key.
10. Scroll Up to Yes and press the MENU/OK key to complete the reset.
11. For this example, once the reset is complete, scroll Down to No to decline to verify Wireless Backup
