There are many possible reasons from stator output voltage to sensing, to fuel to control boards. A good place to start (as the unit does run) would be with the fuel system, if it has sat a long time it won't help. Also the fuel filter. try conencting to an external fuel tank versus the vehicles, as sometimes pick up tubes in main tanks can be an issue. Also check the correct oil level and viscosity / and oil pressure switch. Failing that I recommend a service center, as there really are so many causes, I cannot list all on here.

Miller Legend welder. Onan engine starts and runs a few minutes then dies. Why won't it restart for 5 minutes?

Some engines have a low oil cutoff switch. If the oil level drops to a certain point it kills the engine. Your oil level may be close enough that after starting and running for a little bit the level drops enough to kill the motor. After sitting for awhile the level rises enough to allow the engine to run again check the level and add oil if necessary.
Hope this helps.

You MAY have blown the rotating diodes on the rotor.

This would require servicing.

6.5 RV Onan generaotr wont kick in when loaded. checked automatic transfer switch and excited it manually, worked one time but never again,

1. Does the generator stay running when you start it the first time?

2. What color is the housing on this generator? Try to get the model number and serial number.

If the genset is shutting down on the first try, then your probably not creating voltage. However, if this is an older unit then the genset may stay running although no voltage is created. Place a volt meter on the genset to check for output voltage.
