One of 3 things cause a ref not to defrost. Defrost timer may not be advancing to the defrost position on the timer...The defrost thermostat, located on the evaporator in the freezer, is measures open bad)...or you have a bad defrost heater. If you have an electronic defrost control, which is used on most Maytag, Jenair, or Amana units, this could be your problem. If you turn the unit off for 24 hours to let it defrost manually then it will last for about 2 weeks before freeze up again.

Candy CSC 1745WE fridge freezer just started making a noise like the cooling fan is catching on something. This noise stops when you put pressure on fridge or freezer doors. Any ideas, many thanks.

If the defrost is not working then ice could be forming inside the unit. If that's the case then it will get worse as more ice forms and the unit eventually wont cool or will cool very little. Sometimes a panel or the fan blade isn't adjusted right and it hits something making noises. In the case you would have to pull the covers off inside the freezer .

Whirlpool fridge/freezer ARC 7050

see if you can remove panel inside freezer to see if its full of ice all over condenser .Even if you already defrosted for 1 day..If its full of ice ..Then the DEFROSTER COIL is not working and not melting the ice on condenser and then stoping the cycle therefore compressor will stop running..Also there should be a a couple of thermal switches on the condenser(two wires) if this is bad then there is no cycle..goodluck

The fridge has stoped workingbut the freezer is fine

if it starts working ok after the defrost then you might find it will build up ice again.
There might be a fault with a small device called a thermister that senses the ice build up for the defrost controller.

What most likely is happening is the ice build up freezes the fan that blows the cold air to the fridge compartment.and around the freezer.

Model # MFF2557HES Top refrigator section stoped cooling freezer is working

You may have Ice buildup in the freezer. You freezer has a fan in the bak that sends the cool air to the fridge. Your fridge dial determines how muh cold air comes from the freezer. Try defrosting the freezer. You may have to pull the back panel off of the inside of the freezer to get the ice thawed. The ice build up is likely causing the air to not get to the fridge. Hope it works.

forst off i need the model number, second tell me what's going on,is there ice or like a snow buildup on the back inside wall of the freezer?if so you have a defrost problem,if the freezer is on top is there ice leaking down into the fridge section,if so you could have a blocked drain, also open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad defrost fan motor, send the model number and check some of the things i just asked about and i'll be glad to help you out

Buzzing sound

If noise stops when you open the door, you may have a noisy fan (or could have ice build up, causing fan blade to hit ice and cause noise). I gather it is a frost-free model ie has a fan in the freezer compartment. If noise is caused by fan hitting ice build up, you may have a problem with the auto defrost system, as you should not get ice build up in a frost free.
Noise stops when you open door because fan turns off when door is opened.
