I have a Neptune FAV6800AWQ and during the spin cylce shut down because of an imbalance issue. I took the front cover off and removed the clothes and started the spin cylce again and watched the drum. The cycle completed without the clothes but did seem a bit unbalance even without them. I inspected the two front shock absorbers and they seem like they are very easy to move in/out. There is also oil/grease under one of the shocks, maybe indicating loss of pressure in the shock. Could a worn shock cause the drum to cycle out of balance or might there be more to the issue. What are these shocks called?

SOURCE: Loud Clicking noise only for the first 30-40 seconds of spin cycle.

You may have something caught in the pump impeller. I have found nails, screws, drill bits, paper clips and other small items that some how make their way past the wash tub and into the drain line. I would inspect the drain pump. Remove as much water as you can. Using a wet/dry shop vac to pull water through the drain hose is the best way to drain all residual water from the pump and drain lines. Remove the inlet line first and inspect the pump impeller. Chances are, you have something stuck causing the impeller to rub against it. If this has gone on too long, you may have some damage to the pump. I hope this is helpful to you.

SOURCE: Machine quits during the spin cycle

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the Clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries to get it to clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out a trying a fix If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!

SOURCE: washes but won't spin or drain completely unless no clothes in

Hello screenman780
I will assume you are taking dc or UC errors to the display in spin cycle. Just need the first two digits of your machine serial number, ie. 10,12,16 etc. That information is located on the right back side of the machine console. If you are taking those errors I recommend removing the clutch inspecting the clutch roller bearings and clutch spring. There is a test to perform for the Tub Displacement Sensor that we could check first but 10 times out of 10… so far it’s the clutch. Most of the time a cleanup with WD-40 and re-lube of the clutch bearings with some light bearing grease will get you back in service. If the clutch bearings are rusted up beyond clean up or the clutch spring is broken then a clutch replacement will be required. I recommend this clutch as a replacement. I put that clutch in my machine (1st two digits of my s/n are 16) just to make sure it would work, my original clutch was cleaned up with WD-40 alone and worked as the day delivered on 7/05. Take a look and read thru the post in the link below. In that post I go thru a step by step process to replace the clutch (comment of 3/18). I can also offer some phone support no charge; I'm a DIY'er owner of the machine. I believe the repair cost (from previous post on this forum) to replace the clutch and labor will be around $300 if you don't DIY the repair/maintenance for this issue. Most of the clutch malfunctions are resolved with the clutch maintenance. Anyone can do this with only basic mechanical skill sets. If you can change the spark plug on a lawnmower you can deal with this, the work area is just tight. Here are some folks that had positive results with this maintenance. Unfortunately I feel many of these machines end up at the curb for bulk trash pickup when a $10 fix for some WD-40 a squirt of bearing grease or worse case a $50-$60 new clutch replacement. Good Luck and let me know if you need additional support, Rich.

SOURCE: Shakes on spin cycle

yes bad struts can cause this problem also if you have it on carpet you would be better off cutting a piece of plywood for it to sit on as it will shake when sitting on carpet most of the time

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune bearing noise

John,

What are the first two numbers of your serial number i.e.10 through 17. I’m an owner like you not a repair person….. but I have a very good feel for machine issues and the repair of the machine. See my ratings under this nick name FAV6800AWDIY and my old original nick name dh1200s.

The biggest problem with FIXYA is they don’t ask the user for Model or S/N of the machine. I can’t believe how many professional repair folks jump in with comments and they have no clue as to what machine is being discussed.

You may end up going with a replacement if it’s the Outer Tub Bearings. I would remove the tub and try to replace before I would junk a $1000 but that’s me you would need to decide. This a weak repair area for me I have not replaced the outer tub bearings on any of the three FAV66800A’s I own but I feel confident I could do it. I buy these cheap and repair for resale.

Have you had the Clutch Pulley removed/replaced in the past for dC or uC error code failure in Spin Cycle?

I would drop the Clutch Pulley out and clean up/re-lube the One-Way Roller Clutches and check for signs of a tub seal leak. Then with the Clutch Pulley out spin up the Wash Basket CCW as fast as you can by hand and listen for bearing noise of the Outer Tub Bearings. Let’s make sure the One-Way Roller clutch bearing is not the bearing noise source. See this post for removing the clutch and doing maintenance and replacement. Clutch Fix Post

I have to post rest of this comment as a comment. This forum is not geared up for DIY responses.

Need to reset the program of our maytage neptune TL ver: FAV6800AWQ

""need to reset the program of our maytage neptune TL ver: FAV6800AWQ ""

The only hard reset to the Control Board is to unplug your FAV6800A from the 120VAC service outlet then reconnect.

I feel this will not clear your machine issue. What do you mean by reset the program of our maytage neptune TL?

My front loader was turned off during cycle because we had to leave house. upon returning we just started it back where we left off. upon entering the spin cycle it began to make a horrilbe banging noise,...

BUMMER. I would assume you shut it down during a spin and when it took off it got out of balance. Perhaps druing this it caused some damage.
I would start by unpluggin it for 1/2 hour..... and try it again... If it does then you'll need someone with some technical abilities to look inside at the mechanical parts and then electrical.
Good luck,

Model # FWTR445RFS1. During the high speed spin it just started making a loud thumping noise. Tried sever different loads and it does not seem to be a clothes imbalance. I also took off the back cover...

There is a shaft that goes through a bearing in the back of the outer tub which supports and turns the inner tub. It is connected to the outside edges of the inner tub by a "spider arm". The normal play for the inner tub should be smooth, even and firm. If you can get it to move one way more than another one of the arms of the spider may be cracked. It would require removing ans splitting open the outer tub to inspect the rear support of the inner one.

You have a Series 10 machine 1st two digits of your s/n.

Seems like you have the Service Manual or troubleshooting guide.....can't get that from Servicematters any more I feel you have some drive system binding.

I helped a owner on another forum similar problem. Google this "Neptune TL Spinning Issue Will Not Proceed". Did a lot of up front testing in the end he ended up replaceing the Outer Tub Bearings, the Clutch Pulley.

Start by opening the washer lid and see if you can rotate the wash basket with one finger in the CCW Spin direction. There should be only slight resistance to rotate the wash basket CCW. During the 1st water fill of the wash basket the Control Board will spin the wash Basket slow rpm you can enter Service Mode and observe the rpm on the LED console.

Next start a Quick Spin test and note the highest RPM range the machine will spin up to. Looking for Outer Tub Bearing resistance.

I would suggest another DIY forum to work thru this issue if you are going to DIY. This forum is hit and miss we posting pics and e-mail notification for support......Rich

I have a Maytag Neptune FAV6800AWQ Serial Number

Fireman,

Excellent info wish all post would start off like this. The first two digits of the s/n are your series number a Series 16 machine I’m an owner no expert and will try to help.

I assume you have the Service Manual but just in case.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

“”I can grab the drive belt and effortlessly move it back and forth-pulley spins and motor spins--Should it move like this?””

There should be slight resistance.

With the front cover off and be careful of the rotating drive belt can you start a Spin Only cycle?

Do you see the Motor rotate the Clutch Pulley assembly CCW? If so the wash basket should spin CCW just raise the washer top and verify the CCW/Spin rotation.

If that works again with the front cover off start a Quick Wash cycle min Soil/Spin settings and observe as the washer. As it fills the wash basket will be rotating CCW don’t raise the washer top to high or you will spray water around.

After the water fill the washer will start to Wash/Agitate. The Motor will rotate the Clutch Pulley CW and the Tumblers will rotate. Do you see this action.

You can go into Service Mode with this procedure and dump the wash water if the cycle fails with this procedure.

I would go to page 16 of the SM lower right hand part of page, Board Output Test and turn on the drain pump in service mode to pump out the tub.

Enter Service Mode by simultaneously pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Stop with off button or hit the Presoak key.

Thank you again for the Model number and Serial number…. other readers this is how you post an issue.

Waiting for your feedback………Rich

What does the max extract feature do

If the washer is removing all of the water from the washer during the spin cycle it is likely working properly. Not an expert but I believe max extract causes the washer to spin for a slightly longer period of time in order to remove more water from the clothes. We use it regularly because our clothes come out to wet otherwise.

Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Loading Washer Noise

Hello gwatson01,
Wondering if you could rate my clarification request as a solution? I joined this forum as a owner DIY’er to help other owners. The machine is just too expensive to junk and as you found fairly easy to work on. As a forum member as you I receive no compensation for my support to other owners. Thank you in advance for your support. Rich
My solution;
I’m an owner/DIY’er of the machine. Please take a look at this post and see if your mechanical noise may be coming from underneath the tumblers, maybe some coins grinding around under the tumblers. If you think it is take a look at the service manual link in that post. It will take you thru the tumbler removal process, see if you feel comfortable with the process, the manual does not call out a #20 Torx driver is required to remove the tumbler.
If you think the grinding noise is very metallic and not muffled by a tub of water the grinding noise may be coming from the transmission/clutch area and removing the machine front vertical cover will be necessary to better sound isolate the suspect area of the machine. Do you feel OK to remove the front panel? If so see this post.
The 1st link I sent you to shows that this owner had issues after the coin removal. I would also like you try a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Can you let me know if that cycle runs with no noise? We can’t totally rule out an issue with the clutch/transmission components with the info supplied so far. To help you remotely diagnose this issue detail information is needed. Let’s try to sound isolate the grinding noise source location. Follow all safety rules in the Service Manual. If you don’t feel comfortable to proceed I would recommend you call in a qualified FAV6800AWW repair service for support.

Maytag neptune frot load will not reach full spin speed.

It will not spin while washing, it's more of a rocking back and forth. As far as the spin cycle. If it's not reaching full speed I bet you'll notice that it's not doing the full cycle because the load is bouncing around and cause the washer to shut off. take some of the clothes out and watch it spin the water out.

Loud noise

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary

Hope it may help you;

Regards;
