SOURCE: ice maker failure

1) Check the filler tube which allows water to enter the dispenser through the back wall of the freezer. This tube may be frozen inside. You can pull the tube out gently and clear it.

2) The inlet valve may be faulty/blocked. Where the water connects to the water valves behind the fridge, try to swap the plugs around from the one valve to the other. They should be colour coded. Then try dispensing water. If water runs into the ice-maker then the ice maker valve is faulty/blocked.

SOURCE: Dispenser problem

nope. if your ice maker is making ice, then there is no problem with your water filter.

i'm thinking you have a problem with the micro switch that is being triggered when you press the dispenser. or the board where it is attached to choose from water to crushed or cube...

either one of those but definitely not the water filter.

tnx 4 using fixya,

SOURCE: Refrig Ice is freezing up on the door dispenser

Most likely the defrost timer or Adaptive defrost. Yours has the defrost timer. I want you to open the fresh food compartment and find a small opening through the control panel. The opening may have a plastic plug covering the hole to hid it. Remove plug and turn timer clockwise slowly until the compressor stops running. The compressor should remain off for about 25 minutes. If it does not turn itself back on then turn the timer slowly again to the right/clockwise until it does. If you need to restart the compressor. this way the timer will need replaced.Defrost timer is part number 482493 Keep me informed on your progress, Sea Breeze

Why won't my ice maker work

Hello Cynthia! Most likely the little "flap" inside the door of the dispenser is not closing all the way. My advice is to take all your ice out of the inside of the freezer. Clean and dry out that area as good as you can. Take your hand, and from the bottom, reach up and feel the flap that should close all the way when ice or water is dispensed. Take warm water, pour it from the top, you won't need much, and dry off the little flap as good as can be.
Now, press the ice button, and when you let go, you should hear a clunk or deep sounding slap, that is from the flap closing properly. Same goes for the water. However some manufacturers don't open the flap for water. From this point forward, assuming you heard the flap close, be sure it makes that same noise every single time you use the ice dispenser, or the water dispenser, and your problem should be solved.

Freezer door ice dispenser flap will not close completely. The cold air is leaking out of the freezer. What can I do to fix?

There are multiple parts to the dispenser for GE. You say that door isn't closing properly, which could mean that the solenoid isn't working properly, or that the door flap retainer itself is broken, I want to say that they make a complete kit for it but not for certain,

Can't make ice cubes only crushed ice

Hi: There is a flap right where the ice dispenses. When you remove the bin you will see it when inverted. This flap has to open for the ice to be cubed. You might rember a slap as it swung open when it worked. There is a bar that runs from the flap to the back of the dispenser. Work it manually to see if it's jammed or broken. If not look at the back of the freezer and remove the metal panel if neccessary, to find the jam or defective part. I hope this helps, Jeff

GE Refrigerator

first, let us explore the problem with dispenser flap. open the freezer and look into the ice discharge chute. there may be an accumilation of ice impeding the proper operation of the flap. next, you have indicated the light socket is broken. is it just the bulb or the socket itself? if you wish to remove the ice/water panel, first unplug the unit,. then you may be able to unsnap the drip tray where one would sit their water glass. if you are successful in doing this then the panel can be removed with a star driver but it depends upon the fasteners used. Always keep in mind to disconnect power before working on unit. I hope this was helpful.

Ice dispenser flap/door will not close properly

I have a similar problem. The repair guy took a look at it and stated everything is working and did not order any solenoid or any other parts. After he left the problem returned where ice comes down the chute it tends to lodge and keep the door open. I am disagreement with the repair guy and am leaning toward the idea that the spring has lost tension and is just too weak to close with any authority. There is a video on how to replace the spring on youtube. This is what I will be doing next weekend and will try to return to post results.
