Netgear FWG114P Print Sever not functioning on upper level of LAN

My internet connnection is through first router Dynalink RTA1046VW. I want to utilise my redudant FWG114P's print server function to connect my Samsung 4016 laser printer, so I expect it become a network printer.

I have tried set up the FWG114P as switch (disable DHCP, connecting RTA1046VW LAN port to FWG114P LAN port), but no luck in printing to Samsung. Also I have tried setting up FWG114P as second router (enable DHCP and connecting RTA1046VW LAN port to FWG114P WAN port). With "second-level-router" set-up computer via FWG114P LAN port can browse internet, can configure both FWG114P & RTA1046VW, and can print from FWG114P's LAN port to Samsung. However computer on RTA1046VW LAN port cannot configure FWG114P and cannot print to Samsung.

Would the print server function of FWG114P can be utilised in my situation of RTA1046VW has to be the main router (because it support IPTV from TPG). What should I do in setting them up if it is feasible?

There is one more question if the FWG114P print server function can be utilised. Would the VPN server function on FWG114P can be utilised as well (in "second-level-router" set-up)?

Much appreciate your help and advice.

Still no luck in printing via Netgear FWG114P's print server. Please help in identifying the problem. What I have done are followings:

    1) Set Dyanlink DHCP to .1~.199

    2) Crossover cable connet Dyanlink LAN port to Netgear's LAN port

    3) In Netgear' LAN IP set-up page, enable Print Server and set IP address to .200

    4) Disable Netgear's DHCP and NAT

    5) Add Samsung printer to newly created port .200 (standard TCP/IP port, LPR Protocol)

Though PC can congigure both routers from either Dynalink's or Netgear's port, but still can't print to Samsung via Netgear' print server.

What I have done incorrectly? or something I have missed?

    Much appreciate you help.

Have worked out that I need to enable NAT, and the printe server function can be seen by Printer Server software. Now PC from both routers LAN can print to Samsung.

My Samsung printer is SCX4016, there isn't ethernet port, but has USB and parallel port. And test printing from printer's property window comes out garbage some time. As Dynalink is wireless router, so I don't need Netgear's wirless function.

Thank you, AnswerGuy, you are a great help!

If you set your dynalink's dhcp list up to a certain number (example: .1-.99). connect cat5 cable from dynalink lan port, into print server lan port. make sure print server can be setup as access point. if so, turn access point setting to on. make print server static ip address the next number outside of dhcp range (example: .100).

.100 ip address is the port number you should then be printing to, using a tcp/ip port.

if print server can be set up this way, then it now becomes wireless access point for all wireless devices. i am assuming, since you didn't mention it, that the dynalink is NOT wireless. if it is, the the print server just becomes another device on your existig network, taking the place of the network adapter the printer doesn't have. just set it up the same way you would set up another workstation on the network. except, make it static.

one other question. does the printer have an ethernet port? if so, configure it to the same info as the print server, and disable the print server as a print server, and use it as an access point.

if the printer doesn't have an ethernet port, and you are connecting it to the usb port on the printer, then make sure that the print server is seeing the printer. if open up a web page, surf to the ip address of the print server (.200). once there, you should be able to see, or at least make the print server connect to the printer.

the print server doesn't just automatically connect to the printer. there is a configuration process that is involved. if you have any trouble doing this manually. you can use the setup disk that came with the print server to assist you.

How to Set Up a Netgear WGR614 V5 Wireless Router
Netgear routers--like all wireless routers--give you the opportunity to access the Internet with your laptop or wireless-adapted computer from virtually anywhere in your house within range of the router's WiFi signal. Though slightly different in appearance from other router models by Netgear, the WGR614 V5 acts similar in its setup process as others such as the WGT624 or WNR1000 series routers.
Things You'll Need:
Netgear WGR615 V5 routerNetgear resource CDEthernet wireBlue network wireModemComputer
1 Prepare to install the Netgear router. Log off and shut down your computer system. Turn your Internet modem off and/or disconnect its power supply from the electrical outlet. Take out the contents of the Netgear router box and verify that all the essentials are present: the resource CD, the yellow wire and the router itself.
2 Connect the Internet modem to the Netgear WGR614 v5 router. Locate the yellow Ethernet wire running from one end of the Internet modem to the computer's Ethernet port. Unhook the computer-end of the Ethernet wire and insert this end into the port on the router labeled "Internet." After inserting, confirm that the wire runs from the modem to the router.
3 Connect the Netgear router to the computer. Grab the blue cable supplied with the router. Securely insert one end of the blue cable into one of the four "LAN" ports on the router (the "LAN" ports are labeled with numbers from 1 to 4). Insert the other end of the blue wire into your computer's Ethernet port.
4 Start your network devices. Turn on or connect your Internet modem to an electrical outlet. Wait for at least two minutes to allow the modem to fully boot. Plug the Netgear router into the wall or electrical outlet as well, and wait one to two minutes. Turn on your computer.
5 Look at the Netgear router to verify that all lights are on. The "power," "Internet" and "wireless" icon symbols on the front of the router should be solidly lit. One of the four "LAN" ports should also be lit with either a green or amber color.
6 Insert the resource CD that came with your Netgear router to launch the "welcome" screen. Select "Router Setup" from the menu to begin the "Smart Wizard" setup application. Read and follow the setup steps, including naming your SSID (secure set identifier) or "network name" and setting a level of wireless security. Finish the setup process, ending with the registration of your Netgear router.
7 Verify that your Netgear router has been set up correctly. Open an Internet browser from both the computer that is connected to the router and on a computer that has a wireless card or adapter. Surf to your favorite Internet sites to verify your connection is working. Open your "network connections" utility on your operating system and make sure it shows that you're connected to your own wireless network.

Can not get my adsl modem to connect through ASUS wireless router

it could be the modem and the router has the same ip address. the asus router has an ip of 192.168.1.1, check if the dynalink modem has an ip of 192.168.1.x. if so, change the router's ip to 192.168.x.x (e.g. 192.168.2.1) then see if you'll be able to connect to the internet while the modem is connected to the wan port of the router

Port Forwarding

Instructions for DG834, DG834G, DG824M, FR114W, FM114P, FR114P, FR328S, FVL328, FVS328, FVS338, FVX538, FWAG114, FWG114P, or FVS318v3 These routers do port forwarding by assigning port numbers to a "service" associated with the application you want to run. "Rules" are set for particular services. Rules block or allow access, based on various conditions such as the time of day and the name of the service. To Create a New Inbound or Outbound Rule 1. Submit the router's address in an Internet browser. (The default is 192.168.0.1). 2. Enter the router's username and password. 3. From the main menu, click Security > Rules. 4. Click Add for inbound or outbound traffic, as appropriate to the application you are planning to run. 5. Select the Service. The services the router knows about are listed in the drop down. If the service you want is not listed, add it as described in the next section. 6. Select the Action, for example ALLOW always. 7. For Send to LAN Server, enter the IP address of the local server. Note that this is also the IP address the computers on your LAN will access. 8. For WAN User choose Any, or limit access to particular IP addresses. 9. For Log selection it is reasonable to turn logs on, especially at the beginning when you are unsure of the result of the changes you are making. Later, you may want to set logs to "Never" for performance reasons. 10. Click Apply. As noted in user manual for some models: * Consider using the Dynamic DNS feature on the Advanced menu, so that external users can find your network when the DHCP lease is renewed by your ISP. * If your own LAN server uses DHCP, and your IPs change on rebooting, consider using the Reserved IP Address feature in the LAN IP menu. To Add a Service for These Routers 1. Click Security > Services > Add Custom Service. 2. Enter any name you choose for the service. 3. Select whether the service is to use TCP or UDP. If you are unsure, select both. 4. Enter the lowest port number used by the service. 5. Enter the highest port number used. If the service uses only one port number, enter the same number. 6. Click Apply.
