Horizontal line on screen denotes the absensce of vertical sweep itself. Check the vertical output section circuit to LA7840. Check for any loose solder terminals. It will be best to measure the input voltage to that IC from the LOT secondary supply. Try by replace the IC. If these do not help you, measure the frequency from the main IC. It should be at 50Hz. If this frequency is not present, the main IC is faulty. If you wish to get some more details about the circuit, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts there, either by its left side bar, or see it in Timslide option. Schematic diagrams, that show vertical IC LA7840 is given. You can compare it.

My picture tube displays all black except one thin horizontal line in the middle. There are no horizontal or vertical adjusts that I can fine. Is the picture tube burned out with just this one line?

Hello
A thin horizontal line across the screen denote that the vertical swep or output has damaged, or there are some loose solder points to vertical output section. Loose solder problems are very common to the vertical output sections of most of the picture tube based TVs. Just open your Tv, and pull out the main baord out of it, which has the vertical output section circuit. You must have some knoldge in electronics to proceed. Locate the vertical output section. usually, this section will be composed of an IC, which will be screwed on to a metal heatslink, to radiate heat out of it when it works. Check whether there is any loose solder terminals at this section, especially look for it at the solder terminals of IC and other components around it.
It is very difficult to detect the loose solder points, as some of them may be so microscopic to detect. Just do, what we do at service table, with this type of fault comes to us. Just resolder most of the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder without making any sokder bridge short between adjecent solder terminals.
If this does not help you, check the input voltage to the vertical IC. If found OK, replace the vertical output IC. If there is no voltage to this IC, check the track that brings voltage to that IC. Usually, this voltage will come from one amoung the terminals of LOT [Line Output Transformer]. Check the track, rectifier diode, limiting resistor etc. This is really a skilled work, and you should have all tools for an electronic work, and a skill to detect the faulty component. OK

Monitor displays half screen sometimes and goes back to full screen later. Some days you get the full screen but today it is half screen one time and then full screen another time. It finally quit...

The monitor have problem in vertical section of the board.Maybe the vertical output or any parts around the vertical ic is loose connection circuit, what we called, cold solder so its better to resolder the board at the vertical section.

My Panasonic TC-21Z88RBN doesn’t displays the total picture vertically ,when the picture is display it like not in the center of the screen sum of it is disappear in the bottom

Hello

Your TVs vertical output section has the fault. You just open your TV after disconnecting it from the AC mains wall socket, and locate the vertical output section. This section uses an Ic marked as part [IC 401] on the board and its number is LA7840. Just look for any loose soderings around its components legs, and the solderings at the IC legs, which has 7 of them. The IC stated above will be screwed onto a heatsink to radiate heat out of it when it works.
If all soldering point are fine, come towards the IC legs and measure the voltages at each leg. The voltages must be
pin 1= Ground
pin 2= 12.6
pin 3= 24.7
pin 4= 4.4
pin 5= 4.4
pin 6= 24v [vcc]
pin 7= 1.8
All voltages stated above are DC voltages with respect to ground. If any of this voltage is missing, find out the reason for that. If all of them are noted abnormal, IC may be defective, and replace it.
[vcc] stands for main input voltage to the IC.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to contact me through Fixya. Ok.
