I had an open DSC-W50 in my basement, so I just took a look at it. It can be replaced fairly easily. It has a connector, and one screw holding it in place. It can be accessed, after the rear casing of the camera is removed. Let me know if I can help...perhaps a Google search on my user name? ;)I had an open DSC-W50 in my basement, so I just took a look at it. It can be replaced fairly easily. The part where memory card went in is damaged like bent metal, you should buy new camera and be careful in the future putting in mem card the right way.
I finally figured it out!!! There is a button on the right-hand side of the camera, which switches it from normal mode to simple mode. Just press the button and everything goes back to the way it was...
Set date and time and camera should work. If camera asks to have date set everytime you take batteries out then the memory 3 volt battery is flat ... replace.
