I have an Olympus X-15 digital camera and was using it with an M+ 2GB xD picture card when the display on the screen suddenly showed the message:
CARD SETUP. Clean the contact area of the card with a dry cloth.
Under this message was a yellow highlighted 'CLAEN CARD' and below that a dark bar with the word 'FORMAT' written.
I have tried 2 or 3 times to clean the contact area of the card with a dry cloth, but when inserting the card back into the camera the same display shows. (I have between 500 and 600 pictures on the card and do not want to lose them). I have tried to transfer the pictures onto my computer but the computer displays a request to insert card.
I have successfully used an alternative M+ 1GB card with no problem.
Can anyone help me save all my holiday snaps!?
Thank you in advance Keith

XD cards are now obsolete memory cards. The cards were developed by Olympus and Fujifilm and released during the summer of 2002. There is now an adapter that allows an SD card to be used in place of the XD card You need to remember that the capacity should not exceed 2 GB or the camera will not be able to accept it. As far as I know cameras accepting XD cards were last produced in 2007, I don't know what specific models however the camera specifications would show what type card it uses.
Yes, you can use the XD M+2GB card in your camera. The M+ card is a faster one. The following website gives you more on it. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_xd.asp
"The Type M+ xD-Picture card is compatible with the Type M card in all
cameras and is 1.5 times faster than the Type M card. The increase in
speed may be useful in sequential shooting of digital stills and in the
recording of high-density video with Olympus cameras."
It sounds like the card is damaged, it should take a lot more photos than that.
The C-50 takes an XD memory card. These are different sizes. For example a 256mb size will take hundreds of photographs.
The C-50 is quite old and there are now different types of XD cards. It might be best to get a 128mb XD card.
The Olympus website says: --- Please contact Olympus authorized distributor or service center in your region for the information about using xD-Picture Card 512MB, 1GB or 2GB --- I hope this helps.
Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS
Master software from the provided CD-ROM. An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for Panorama shooting. If the card is a Fuji xD card then the panorama feature would be disabled to you.
As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased, lost or corrupted. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge. http://www.z-a-recovery.com/ You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.
Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".
The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 256mb card without the letters M or H on it. The 1gb and 2gb cards are not compatible.
