Since repairing washers is a hobby and not a profession, I'm not familiar with that particular washer. I know that those codes usually mean it overfilled (D15) and the door lock failed to properly engage.
If you know what you are doing, you can check the switches with an ohm meter. Please don't do this if you aren't sure how to do this safely.
Are you getting the little melody chimes! Mozart? I read that about the Kenmore's. Your adding either too much soap or the wrong kind. Read owners manual for proper amounts of soap! More does Not mean more clean!
This machine has no oil in the tub assembly. Over a period of time and using cold water washes body oil, dirt and undissolved detergents and fabric softener will accumulate at the water line on the inner wall of the outer tub. After the gunk builds up thick enough parts of it will break loose at times when using hot water and then get on the clothes.
take the back of the top console off and there is a service manual there that will help you a lot more than i can type if the guy didnt take it with him anyway, doesnt sound like a door lock problem tho because it will give an error for the door and yes it is a solinoid, the older models had a wax motor
it should just come out with a nice firm, but gentle pull. problem is u need to be careful because if its that clogged up, its probably weak and might break. U can always just buy new ones at sears, or home depot.
