Did you check to see if the retainer has been removed, that the print head release lever is in the print position, or that there is a paper roll in the Receipt and/or the Journal? Aslo, make sure that he Journal Return wheel is not broke on the side that holds the wheel in place. That's the only time I have recieved that message.

You have two different errors. "PPPPPPPP" means the printer has run out of paper. Change the paper roll then press clear (CL). "E32" means you have logged off and no one has logged on to use the machine. Enter your log on code and then press CLK#.If you need a manual for the XE-A20s, one of our users has it here:

Sharp xe-a506 cash register wont print after paper change

If you see "HEAD UP" or "PAPER EMPTY" on display, make sure the head lever on the side of the printer is locked in closed position and press CL (clear) button.
If the paper is feeding out blank, make sure you have the shiny side of the paper facing the front of the machine - if no shiny side to paper, you have wrong paper.
If that doesn't fix it, please let me know which side is having the trouble (receipt or journal) and whether the paper is feeding or if you have an error message.

How to feed paper roll into calculator

Installing the Paper Roll
Caution: Avoid placing a double thickness of paper into the mechanism.
Do not pull the paper through the mechanism without pressing feed button.
1. If necessary, press on to turn the calculator on, and press P
to turn the PRINT display indicator off.
2. Remove the printer compartment cover by placing a thumb on each of the lower ridged corners of the cover. Push until the cover pops open, and lift the cover off.
3. Unroll a few inches of paper from the small roll and cut the end squarely.
4. Hold the paper so that it unrolls from the bottom, and insert the end of the paper into the slot under the printing mechanism.
5. Press feed button until the paper feeds out of the top of the printer compartment.
6. Place the small roll of paper inside the compartment.
7. Feed the end of the paper through the slot behind the clear plastic "window" of the printer compartment cover. Then snap the compartment cover back onto the unit.
