Obviously this is a common problem. I went out and bought a new model (different brand) this Westsinghouse POS is only 14 months old.
Has anyone had success fixing one of these? All I see posted is negative.
About six months after the purchase, the TV would lose picture. At first, I could get it to come back on by turning the TV off and on. Around the 13th month, I smelt a funny scent and the next day the TV picture was out for good. The sound stills works, and the westinghouse "W" shows up at the bginning, but after that I just get the blank screen. I went out and bought a Samsung. Check the sound settings first. If Mute is ON, there will be no sound from the speaker. Check speakers. If all of these are OK, check and replace damaged component/s at the audio output board, or replace this board as card basis. For more details

There could be two possible failures:
1. The backlights are defective (not a common failure for a 14 months old LCD) or the backlights driver/inverter is defective.
2. Power supply failure(very common failure on LCDs) will cause the symptoms you described.
IThe back;light is not working corectley if it is under warranty it should be returned, if it is a 32/42 C3030 it is an old model in the UK other countries may use different model numbers
