Follow these detailed steps , and you can remove phone number from iMessage.
1. Remove phone number from iMessage on iPhone
Step 1: Make sure your SIM card is in your iPhone. And turn on your Iphone, then open Settings.
Step 2: Tap Messages.
Step 3: Tap "Send & Receive".
Step 4: Turn iMessage off.

Time zone fixed this for me. I was having issues logging into Twitter account on iPad mini and directed me to set my time zone. Once I set the Time Zone to Set Automatically Twitter, iMessage and FaceTime worked.

Did the following:

• Go to Privacy
• Location Services
• System Services
• Turn on "Setting Time Zone"
• Go to General
• Select Date/Time
• Turn on Time zone "set automatically"

Make sure you set up the account properly. Also make sure the right email address is used.

First manually delete all imessages and messages on your phone. This wil not get back all the space but it ensures you have no messages and the success rate is much higher.

try re-enting the password again
most of the time imessage cannot authenticate or connect to your icloud account
an easy way to fix this issue is to simple restart the phone (this will reconnecttp icloud account)

If you backed up your messages to iTunes, you can retrieve them from iTunes. Just connect your iPad to the computer, and then sync the lastest data.

There are a few things we can try:

First, make sure iMessage is enabled by going to Settings, then Messages. The toggle should be set to "On". If it is "Off", when you switch it on it should ask you to sign in with your AppleID.

Also, make sure the contact of the person(s) you are trying to use iMessage with includes the email address they are sending iMessages from. It will not work with phone numbers.
