My washing machine (whirpool ultimate care II) runs, but smells like burning/smoke. We need a clearer solution as to how to fix this problem. Can I have step by step instructions on what to do? Thank you!

My husband and I noticed a burned rubber type smell during the spin cycle as well. The clothes appear to be fine and they don't smell, but the smell seems to be lingering long after the wash is over.

We have the same problem, and found out the the electric motor is running very hot. Replacing the motor seam to cure the problem, but the motor is not inexpensive. $200 to $350.

There are a lot of things could cause the burning smell. Best thing will be to remove the service panel and to try to find out the smell source. Good luck!

My washer was smoking during the spin cycle what could the problem be.

hi Bill.
The pump may be belt driven, motor driven or have its own electric motor. A burning smell coming from the washing machine during or after the spin cycle can indicate that the drain pump has become seized, preventing it from turning.

Maytag Performa clothes washer. Model LAT2500AAE. Made screeching sounds during spin cycle also burned rubber smell. Turned off. Removed and replaced belts. One belt was shot. Ran a test run and still...

Check to see if your water pump is spinning. It could be seized up and the burning smell could be the belt spinning on the seized pulley. Good luck Friend.

Burning smell during spin cycle on frigidaire washing machine

Open lid as you would load clothes and hold the inner drum with all the holes in it. Give it a manual turn left, then right. If it spins in both ways the main bearing is gone. This is not a DIY because the new bearing has to be pressed on at a machine shop, or an appliance repair shop.

It made a quite hum during the spin cycle, instead of the normal (much louder) spinning sound. When I turned it off I noticed it had a rubber/electric burning smell.

If it's a squealing sound, your belt is probably bad. If it's a humming noise with those smells you listed, it might be your transmission going bad.

Washer spins but won't drain, electrical smell

HI, the smell is coming from the pump housing. the pump impeller may have slipped of the drive stud, in return, jamming itself in side the housing. this will cause the pump to burn out. Check the following before you replace the pump.

1. Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).

Washing machine spins slowly and smells of burning rubber

The belt could be worn and will be slipping on the pullys, as it spins up the rubber , rubs against the pullys and that is what creats the burning rubber smell, the belt needs replacing.

Burning smell + Screeching sound but Belt is not the cause, then WHAT is?

A lot of people may be searching for help with horrible sounds and burned belts for Maytag and Admiral washers only a few years old from Home Depot etc. They used a cheap pump that has a corrugated sheetmetal ring that holds the bearings. Well as it runs the vibration and friction cause it to slip down and grind on the pulley as well as not turn easily. If you put the washer on it's back and turn the small pulley and it turns with a gritty feel or you can actually see a loose metal collar type ring thing that looks like a cookie cutte; then you have a bad pump.

There is a small access panel on the back of the washer. Three screws and two spring clips on the hoses and you're done (use big pliers on the hoses). Put the belt back on (just push motor to one side, it's not tight), then check for leaks and reinstall the cover. VOILA! You can find the pump on ebay for $25 or your local GE parts dealers for $50.
