Check to make sure that the 4g is configured properly on your phone first. I don't know your phone, but even if you toggled airplane mode nothing would have changed if 4g wasn't enabled to begin with. If that doesn't work, try contacting your carrier.

I have a unlocked ZTE Mf190 USB-Modem. When I put the SIM card in it and connect it to the computer, I am able to connect to 3G Internet via beetel connection manager.
