Duet Sport Dryer drum will not turn

The dryer suddenly stopped working. Does not matter which mode ... automatic or manual, it will not turn the drum. The counter does count down so it is thinking that things are happening but it does not attempt to rotate, heat up. Just sits there silently counting down. Tried re-starting and turning off power and re-starting, etc. No progress yet.

Most likely thermal fuse is bad, but also could be door switch or a control problem.

SOURCE: Whirlpool duet dryer will no start...the "sensing" light comes on when you hit start; it makes the click noise in the door when you hit start, it counts down, but it does not tumble or anything

you have a blown thermal fuse. you can get one where they have parts it is about 5 dollars.

SOURCE: Whirlpool duet electric dryer timer stopped

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Why do the Automatic cycles on my Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer not always work?

In some dryer's the control panel relies on a thermistor rather than a CYCLING thermostat to regulate the drum's air temperature by monitoring the component's resistance changes; resistance goes down as temperature increases and up when temperature decreases. Once the drum's air temperature reaches a certain level required to dry clothes, the control panel shuts off the heater. The panel will turn the heater on again and begin another heating cycle when the thermistor indicates that more heat is needed to keep the air temperature constant inside the drum

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle. Which are reflected by the thermostats.

My whirlpool duet sport dryer made a loud bang then stopped working and now says its sensing,,what could be wrong

Try reaching inside the dryer and turn the drum by hand. There should be some resistance because of the belt going around the drum. If you can turn it freely my guess would be the bang you heard was the belt breaking and the idler pulley hitting the floor or the side of the dryer. Most dryers today will not run if the belt breaks because of a safety switch. Hope this helps.

Duet dryer is getting too hot in both automatic and manual modes.

Check you venting. Sounds like it it stopped up with lint, etc. The vent starts at the connection in back of the dryer where the 4" flex hose connects to the dryer all the way to the outside of the house. Hope this helps you.

How do you clean out the baffles filled with lint in the Whirlpool Duet dryer?

To remove the dryer drum baffles on a Whirlpool Duet, follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer.

2. Remove the top panel of the appliance by removing the screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the dryer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

3. Locate the bolts that hold the baffles in place on the outside perimeter of the drum. There should be 2 for each one.

4. Remove the screws for the baffle and it will come off.

HELPFUL HINTS:

1. Remove ONE baffle at a time so you can use the remaining baffles to turn the drum manually.

2. Drum rotates in a clockwise direction.

3. When removing or reinstalling each baffle, duct taping it place will keep it from flipping around when you get to the last bolt holding it in place. It will also keep it from dropping in the drum when removing, and help you hold it in place to reinstalling.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
