You need a router to use the hub or switch. It provides the IP routing. Make sure the Router is set DHCP. If you have all this correctly setup then try:
Go to Start > Search (Run in XP) and type cmd and hit ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER. This just refreshes your IP. Test it.

this hint is only possible if your hawking can be used a an access poit. if yes then try try the following:

connect you adsl line into your modem/router,

connect the lan cable of your modem into a switch

connect both your PC and Hawking into the switch

have your modem/router provide DHCP and DNS

configure your PC to gte its ip address and DNS dynamically

configure your hawking access point to also get its dns and dhcp dynamically (do this by getting into the hawking http page configuration, or telnet if you are good with commands)

now set a wireless lan with WPA or higher through your hawking.

type ( ipconfig /all) it will display one 12 digit physical address. (ex: 00-11-22-33-44-55)

I would start with stripping ALL security and encryption settings, see if they work with basic IP addressing setup. Verify that the subnet address ranges are the same and that that the same IP schema is used (IPv4 vs IPv6) on both devices. Then make sure that the security settings are complementary to each other and not in conflict (opposite or identical). Then add the pair to the existing network and check antenna connections.

An alternative suggestion would be to install a Yagi type antenna on the Netgear DG834GT. This will give you a very long and useful range. A Yagi antenna can be made rather inexpensively using a coffee can (Google "coffee can Yagi antenna", I suggest the entry from iHacked.com, this gives a good lesson on the antenna and basic concepts).

The problem might be that you have good connection to the router but having connection trouble between your router and the internet.
Try accessing your router by typing your Gateway into the address field of the web browser of your choice.
Then click on WAN (Wide Area Network) and check your external IP Address. Beside it you will find a button that says "Renew".

Yes there is an easier way! Just setup the router as you would any normal setup. Follow the directions to set it up for the first time. What you want to do is have the put in all of your information that you need for it to communicate with your Modem. This will automatically place the router onto your network. Now the part that I believe you want is for this to be secure! Well setup either a WEP or WPA these are both encryption Protocols that will denie access to anyone other than you or someone you allow to access your network wirelessly.
You do not really have to go through all of the trouble of setting up specifics. As long as the two devices communicate the router and the modem will do the rest. I do this everyday in my daily work day! Anymore quesitons please feel free to ask!
