When I put my battery into the charger, red light on the charger flashing and my batter is not getting charge. I am using Rechargable Lithium Ion Battery NP-20 3.7V 700mAH.
Its pretty simple to fix. The lithium battery has just depolarized. Just buy a 9V battery.... put them end to end... the 9V and the lithium and touch the metal parts of them. hold for 20 seconds... if it doesn't work, lick the 9V to conduct the electricity better.. hold for 20 seconds and put directly on the charger... I just did this, and it is charging as we speak! good luck!
Use the 9V as Ricckk suggested in Solution#2 and it works like a charm (make sure you hold the 9V against the casio battery for about 20secs with the the right polarize i.e. + with + and - with - ). As well as the phone number Dobetta gave in Solution #4. I now have a spare. Thanks Ricckk and Dobetta.
I tried jump-starting my NP-20 with a 9V and it worked!! I just made 2 "wires" made out of aluminum foil and held them to the + and - of the 9V to the + and - of my camera battery and now I have the solid red light rather than the flashing red light. Thank you so much!!!
Ricckk,
You are a genius! 9 volt battery kisses right up to the contacts.. Held it against my bad np-20 for 20 seconds.. and it is charging now without blinking red light. I also got a free one from Casio.. now i'll have a spare.
For those of us that dont have 9 volt batteries ...your not out of luck .... i had the same problem and after reading everyone post i was ready to grab my phone and call the hot line...but then i remembered what my chemistry teacher told me about ion reactions...so i put my battery in the freezer for about 10 minutes poped it in the chargering dock and booom the light stayed red and charged fully... now i dont have to wait a week, try it it'll work ^.^, the below freezing temperture slows down the chemical reaction bewteen ions and molecules generating enough enenrgy that the charger is able to charge it again ... i hope it worls for u guys
Your battery is locked up. I fixed mine by jumping with a 6v battery for 10 sec which got it to show some voltage. Charger then accepted it. Careful, I imagine to long a shock voltage could cause an explosion.....
Had the blinking light/no charge problem after about 6 months of light use as well. Called Casio at (800) 435-7732. They were very nice and sent me a free replacement battery that arrived in just a few days with no questions. That's the good news. The bad news is the replacement battery failed even quicker (about 2 months). I'll be on the phone again in the morning....
This may sound strange, but I slapped the battery down on the counter and the charger stopped flashing.
THANK YOU FOR THE 9V SOLUTION!!
When you put up the np20 and the 9volt against each other, do you put the positive terminal against the positive or negative terminal?
Much to my amusement after putting it in the freezer a couple of times and touching the 2 connectors of the battery to the nodes with no success and even emailing casio to express my disgust with my second battery dying
I decided to go all out .. so I left it in the freezer for 20 minutes and then got the tin foil out as suggested .. you wrap it around the connectors on a nine volt and then attatch to the two outer connectors on the battery itself ... the battery begins to heat up, and when its about to burn your hand off let go .. .and lo and behold my battery is no longer flashing so i presume its working now
Other people have been having this problem- I think it's common. They suggested calling Casio to have them send you a new one free of charge or go to Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. to buy a new battery.
Tried the freezer trick, didn't work for mine, called the 800 # They said we would have to buy a new battery. My husband had a universal AC adapter, , took 2 paper clips, set the adapter on 9volt, held for approx. 20 seconds, he saw a zap at first. And voila! It works! Thanks so much guys for the advice! We didn't have a 9 volt handy. But this worked too! Electronics class was good for something!
The 9vt battery trick didn't work at first, the metal around the 9v battery was in the way of connecting the camera battery and the 9v. So what we did was take 2 small metal objects (ie tweezers) and that helped the connection and the battery charger isn't blinking anymore :) Good ideas guys and gals!
The 9v suggestion worked perfect! Thanks a million...only took twenty seconds.
Casio America is full of you know what. I have only charged my NP-20 about 6 times and it failed. I called Casio for advice. They stated that the life span of the NP-20 is 1 to 5 years and pretty much said it was my tough luck. Rather spend $30 toward a different brand of camera than waste it on another Casio failure....
Very Cool 9 volt worked on my "old" battery and my bad replacement
I called Casio's support line at 1-800-435-7732 and they DID NOT replace my battery.
Nonetheless I tried the 9 volt trick and it worked.
Up yours CASIO!
Same issue here.
However, I called Casio's support line 1-800-435-7732 and they DID NOT replace my battery.
So I tried the 9 volt battery trick and it worked.
Up yours CASIO!
Thanks for the 6 and 9V battery idea!! You saves the day (I needed the camera for my daughter's party tonight!!!
Tried the freezer trick and the 9v battery trick...both did not work
I just found my camera, which had been stuck in the couch for about six months (I guess that's the downside of everything getting smaller). Same problem, no charge, the light blinks.
I called the number and they have a new battery on the way to me now. They did ask me a couple of questions, but even though I didn't have the answers (I don't remember exactly when or where I bought it), they still sent me a new one, free of charge, without me having to ask for it. It's really nice to deal with customer service that presumes the customer is always right. Casio gets points with me there.
I don't have a 9 Volt battery (what do they use those for anymore) so I put my current battery in the freezer for ten minutes. That didn't work unfortunately. I'm going to pick up a 9-Volt tonight and see what that does. Otherwise, at least that new battery is on its way.
I also just tried it worked a treat. Great stuff you guys are great
I just got off the phone with Casio and as annoyed as I am that the battery went bad, they couldn't have been nicer. They were helpful, polite, no questions asked! I was on and off the phone in a matter of a couple minutes. I'm a little put out but knowing I don't have to pay for a new battery made my day. = )
Holy ****!!! The 9 volt battery trick really did work. I had to bend the negative side of the 9 volt out a bit so the connection was good but it really worked.
I did the 9V battery trick and the casio battery is now charging ok. Will also call Casio for a free one!
I called 1-800-435-7732 and they sent me a new battery free of charge. No questions asked. The initial battery lasted 7 months.
Batteries that cause the red light to flash probably have in internal leak, which can be cured by using a nicad battery Zapper.
I called the 800 # and they gave me a replacement battery. It was pretty simple, just need the model and serial # of the camera.
I did the same. I contacted casio and they sent me a new battery free of charge.
Thank you guys! the 9v battery trick did work!

i havent done anything because I dont know if its the battery or the charger???
When I try to charge my battery. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING WITH THE FLASHING RED LIGHT! It's not Christmas and we haven't even had this camera a year. NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT TO DO. Please advise
I have same problem.. red light keeps flashing and I think it's not charging. Can anybody help??
SAme problem! Flashing red light, charged it before and had no problems but now just as I need the camera I do! How can I solve this? Had the camera less than a year!
my lithium ion battery dont seem to be charging. i put it on charge red light flashes leave it on all night yet no power
I have exactly the same problem what should I do ?
Light flashes on charger with new battery installed.
Same problem too. I buy a new battery, it works for one use, charges normally and then back to the same problem.
Im on my 3rd or 4th battery!
Exactly the same problem. Camera 1 week under a year old.
Tried to put in the freezer, but red light kept blinking:(
same, I dont know whats going on :(
im having the same problem, mi charging my battery and the charger continues to flash, what does this mean ?
I have the same problem...on my 3rd battery now. I didn't even get to use the camera when I first got it. The battery was bad that they gave us and also the one the sent to replace. Now this one is bad after just 4 months of use. What a crappy product!!!
I have the same problem - can someone explain the 9v battery trick to me in simple terms?
When I put my battery into the charger, red light on the charger flashes and my battery is not charging. The battery seemed to be completely dead when I tried to use the camera. The battery is a lithium ion battery - NP20
I have exactly the same problem. same battery
when i put my battery to charge the light keeps blinking i have not even used the camera many times
i have the same batter and i have the same lithium ion battery np-20. i have another camera where the charger has the same outlet so you can use the same plug but the battery charger for that one works fine but my casio one np-20 refuses to charge
Exactly the same problem, but customer services were very helpful!
I've been reading about how the 9V battery can help, but what steps should I take on to doing this? I dont want to shock myself or ruin my battery even more without the proper directions ..
Thanks =)
sam thing...blinking
When I put my battery into the charger, red light on the charger flashing and my batter is not getting charge.
i tried the frezzer thing, didnt work. and i dont want to risk my safety playing around with voltage from another battery
Everytime i put it to charge the charger's light flashes and i dnt get any charge on the batter
have the exact camera/battery combo...called the toll free number and they are shipping me a FREE replacement battery that should arrive in 3-5 business days. They say that some of the NP20 batteries have experienced this problem and were happy to send a replacement battery. you should be able to give them the model number of the camera. mine is a model 277 and have the serial number available. mine is 80014927A. i'm going to try the freezer trick with the old battery and also the nine volt battery idea too!
thanks again
Put the battery on the charger and the light don't flash is the battery shot or the charger bad
