Progressive scan problem

When I tried to play a dvd movie on my 2910, every thing goes ok for the first 4 minutes, after that the player starts jumping from progressive "f" to progressive "v" and the audio gets some gaps until the movie stops, after that if you push the "play" button again, the player says disc error, and it does'nt read any disc unless you turn the player off or unplug it from the wall outlet. and if I play a normal cd I have no problems. Can any body helpme please? Thanks and best regards.

You need to clean your laser lens my friend. If that does not help, I'm afraid then that your laser assembly is going bad and on its last leg. The first clue to this is that you stated that the Cd's work and the DVDs do not work properly. The laser, when it gets weak, starts to mess up on the Dvds first but the Cd's will soon follow. Good Luck

Yes, as I told you before the first clue that the laser is going bad is that you stated that the CD seems to work well correct? Thats the first clue if the CD works and the DVD does not.

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2007

No gears broken, as if there were, the CD would not still work, as the CD still trackes with the same laser, but with the DVD you need a stronger laser beam to defract and scatter the beam to read the digital pits in the disc.

Yes you do. But is this going to be worth it?

You need to replace the laser assembly. This is the part with the laser inside of it with a prism and tiny mirrors inside of it. These lasers will get weak over time and wear out.

How do you know if you have a Progressive Scan TV? We are having problems playing DVD's from video stores. It will play the previews, but when it gets to play the movie, it doesn't play. I can play them...

Well, a progressive scan TV displays in the same resolution as a normal interlace TV. It's very hard to tell the difference in all respect.

Progressive rewrites every single line/pixel on the screen. Interlaced simply skips a line and rewrites half of the lines every frame. So, progressive can show higher quality, but interlaced was more predominant as it was easier to create for TV makers in the earlier days.

Most of today's better televisions are strictly progressive and you won't have any problems.

I'd try a different DVD player with the selected titles and see if the problem persists. It could be the TV or the or the player itself. If the titles work in another DVD player. Try a newer television and see if it works there.

Hope these ideas help.

Progressive scan turned on - how do you turn it off?

I'm not very familiar with this namebrand on electronics, but they are all the same anyways. To check if this function is on, usually the player's lcd screen would have a "P", "PROGRESSIVE" or "P-SCAN" on it. First, make sure you remove all dvd's or cd's from the player, then look for a button on the remote, or the unit itself that say's "P-SCAN", "PROGRESSIVE" or "RESOLUTION", once you find it, push it, sometimes they would indicate the resolution on the player's lcd screen (480i, 480p,720p,1080i, 1080p), if not, on the tv itself. The resolution you are looking for is 480i for the type of cables you are using (composite RCA). Give it a try, and let me know how it goes...

Denon 2910 CD player malfunctions

By this time I figure most peoples warranties are expired. So give this a try:

1 Open the case.
2 Turn the unit on and load a disk.
3 On top of the disk transport, you will see a black disk trying to spin as it reads the disk. You might notice that it is a bit quite as the display goes to 00H00M00S. It should be fast and a bit noisy.
4 Try loading a disk again, except this time, try to help that little black disk spin. It might take a couple of attempts, but I was able to get my 2910 working again.

The last year I've had to do this 2-3 times. But it works. From what little I have read, it may just be an issue with lubricating the right part with the right oil. I've narrowed my choices to PTFE 3n1 oil, Lithium oil, or silicone oil.

now I just need to find the right places to oil.

There should be quite a bit of noise and speed

DVD/VCR stuck in Progressive scan mode

With NO DISK in the DVD player PRESS PLAY, (display will say "no disk" or something similar) then PRESS STOP AND HOLD FOR 5-10 SECS. Our DVD was stuck on Progressive Scan Mode for over 1 year, this fixed it. I had tried the press stop, press stop and hold while playing a movie, but not while there was no disk. Try it & Good Luck!!!!!!!!
