Does your headphone have a separate volume adjusting? Also check that your TV volume is up..
No volume control on headphones & TV volume turned to MAX
I couldn*r fins stuff online. Only thing that comes to mind from own experience is to check that check the headphone cable that its not broken or badly bend... and last thing try the plugin in different depths into tv,,,
Thanks for the reply. headphone cable is new and works with other things. Don't know what you mean by 'different depths into tv..' Explain?
Some electronic equipment plugins get loose and if you just press the plug to as deep as you can, it might not work to its full potential. So just try it with your headphones on...
'plugins' is what has me confused. Headphone connector plugged into TV as far as it will go, but thanks for trying to help! baffled.

Hello,
Unfortunately, this is a failure of the balancer board for the backlight. The unfortunate part is that the balancer is not available by itself anymore, and the whole panel must be replaced, as Sony only has the balancers attached to new panels. You can contact Sony directly to ask for assistance, and it usually helps.
Hope this helps you...

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

I also have the same problem and was wondering if you ever found out the answer to this problem Peter?

it sounds like your back light might be going out. You might be able to fix this by installing a new backlight inverter board.

Tap the "Theater" button on the remote. You should see either "Theater Mode: On" or "Theater Mode: Off". If it is off, tap it again to turn it on and wait for it to go away. Now tap again (should say "Theater Mode: On") and then press and hold it for about a second. This should actually turn it off, as opposed to just pretending to. Works on my larger Sony KDL.
