Ice machine only makes crushed ice not cubed ice.
Normally, the ice "cubes" are crescent shaped. The most likely cause for "crushed" ice is that the ice maker isn't getting enough water on its refill cycle after ejecting the tray. Becuase there isn't enough water, the ice looks crushed...it's actually shattered.
Check the water inlet and chute to the ice maker. Sometimes they freeze and have to be manually defrosted. A hair dryer will do the trick. Also check the water chute and be sure it isn't partially frozen.
Start there...if no luck you could also have a failing water filter or sticky water solenoid valve.
Hello, My ice maker stopped working after I shut off supply line (yes I had the ice maker off) to install a Reverse Osmosis Filter System under our kitchen sink. Yep, makes great tasting water, but after install... NO ICE.
Anyway... after trying everything, including CHANGE WATER/ICE MAKER $50 double tube in clear plastic box carbon FILTER IN FRIG. SIDE, Check wire bale auto stop c (lift the wire hanger, make sure you hear the circuit click on & off when you raise & lower the hanger). Make sure good water pressure from main feed, I also did the Disconnecting feeder hose (plastic blue line up to icemaker on outside back at top just before it goes thru to ice maker) and using a hair blower/drier on 3 different locations, and at least 5 times. I was getting water from water dispenser in door, but after all this... STILL NO ICE... I was ready to call Sears UGH!!! $$$$ But I kept at it (stubborn & cheap) SO..Here is what finally worked for Me & MY 5 year old Kenmore side-by side... and I have been makin' Ice ever since!!!
1. Make room in your frig.
2. Move all frozen items over to frig. or put in coolers, eat em, or give away!
3. Turn OFF Ice Maker. rocker switch above ice maker high up inside back of freezer.
4. Turn FREEZER THERMOSTAT to OFF, it's in the frig section top.
5.Remove the little shelf, (called ice- cream shelf in Sears manual). It has a cut-out for the ice maker On-Off switch and a back wall that goes right up against the ice maker, Yep it blocks circulation and causes feed-line freezing in the beginning especially if water supply is interrupted even for a minute before you even get rolling. Don't worry you can replace it once you have made ice a day or two.
6. Walk away for 3-4 hours, leave all alone , go watch a football/baseball/basketball game. OR if you are impatient like me... you can get nuts with the wife's Blow Drier, hit every part of ice maker inside, go to outside back and disconnect blue plastic water feed line up at TOP ONLY, it's the one coming from bottom of frig. ("tee's" and servo's), blow hot air in the flange (hole thru back of frig to ice maker) up top going to ice maker where you unscrewed blue tube, and also all down the blue tube. Then reconnect. I spent 5 minutes with blower on the ice maker, and a couple minutes at back of frig. at line inlet & line. Be Careful not to melt anything plastic, we're just trying to melt ice blocking or slowing water flow.
7. Now here's the crazy part... slide the ice catching bin (the box under the ice maker that holds all the ice cubes that you Have Not Been Makin') slide it half way out... and slam it back home (not crazy hard enough to break it), but firmly enough to make a loud noise... do this 3 or 4 times. (don't ask me, but it works, it re-aligns gears in timer/blade turner/ water shute/supply box or something). Trust Me Just Do It!!!
8. Turn on freezer set to Medium (normal) factory mark.
9. Turn on Ice Maker.
10. Make sure the AUTO ICE MAKER -Shut-Off Stop wire hanger is down and free swinging. Close door, and leave the Freezer alone, do NOT open door every five minutes to see if ice is being made... Don't worry, it will take several hours (5-or-6) before you'll start to hear ICE CUBES fall into bin. It will be very slow at first, maybe little cubes, don't worry, keep the faith. Do NOT play with the "Rapid Ice" button, leave it off always... if you are in a hurry for a party, go buy some ice!
Anyway, that's it... by the next day your Bin will Be Full. Just make sure the wire bale hanger thingy is free and it rides up the ice & does it's ice maker auto shut off thing when catch bin is full of cubes. Good Luck!!! Don't forget SHUT OFF ICE MACHINE whenever you TURN OFF WATER supply, OR CHANGE FILTER, and cause an air bubble in the feed line to ice maker (which is really same as turn of supply water). Don't forget to Throw Away the first batch of ice, especially if you just changed the filter. Hope this helps You!!!
IF NOT... sorry, CALL A TECH. or someone that can troubleshoot the electronics/motors/gears/servo's
