Engine is running rich, spark plug is black, spark arrestor is black, after only 2 tanks, do they have smaller jets for this carb

you need to alter the fuel mix. there is a fuel mix screw on the side of the carb. screw in for less fuel. then check on ldel loads on spark plug... then test on full load then check spark plug again. dont mix up the idle screw with the mix screw. should have a white film on idle speed and a slight red colour or full load. run for 10min at a time then check.

We own a Yamaha inverter-gen 2000is, and hope an extended run tank can solve our need for uninterrupted and worry-free sleep. My husband needs to refill it every 5 or 6 hours. He's afraid of some damage...

That extended run tank is about 6 gallons it will make a huge diff. You could expect to get 24-30 hours depending on your load.
