Try a friends computer. If that dosent work, check the ac adapter, replace is nessary. if that dosent work put the hdd in a nother enclosure, still not working, the hdd istelf will be broken, tae the drive to a data recovery centre
Your My Book World should not be formatted or you will lose all ability to access it through the Network -- it will simply become a hard-drive at that point. There is software installed on the hard-drives that communicate with your Router in order to obtain an IP and be available as a Network Drive. If the drive and the Router are communicating, you should see an IP in the DHCP list of your Router. It is possible that the My Book World is not setup for DHCP, so if it is placed in an alternate environment with incompatible static IPs, it won't be able to access the Internet or be available locally. You can try a hardware reset on the drive and see if it pops up in your Router's DHCP/Client list, at which point it should also appear locally and over MioNet (MioNet will need to register the device to an account before it will appear in MioNet, but it must detect the drive locally in order to attach).
1. Turn off My Book World 2. Identify the reset button on the back of My Book World 3. Depress the reset button while restarting My Book World 4. Keep the reset button depressed for about 10 seconds after you see blue lights on My Book World
Since you have not given any specifications about model of your HDD hence I'd consider your HDD connects through USB. Your USB driver is old you shall consider upgradation.
Have you tried powering it up without connecting it to the computer? It should at least power up and do something. After that try connecting it to your PC (with the disk powered up already).
You can further check this external drive troubleshooting article, which has some tips on trying to get external disks to work.
Hi There, Don't know if this will help ?. I have My Book Ess-Edit 500. I bought it six months ago. (it has a blue light which moves up & down when on) Anyway here goes. you don't have to safely remove my book as it turns on & off with your PC. Was your pc on when you pulled the plug? IF SO YOU MAY BE IN THE S***. with my book turned on, Try from start xp / flag Vista. / Computer/ highlight WD mybook / right clik open, in list you should see whats on your my book, folders & so on.
(you seem to be looking for your pic's). highlight folders/ right clik open/ you can restore a file from the list by, again highlight/ then right click/ from list pick (send to) Documents. From there you can copy / paste to pictures. Hope this helps ? Steve 105
log in from administrator see if your anti virus's or your windows fire wall is not interrupting if not solved go to run in the start menu type command "chkdsk" "netuser administrator (the password you want to give)"
Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.
Hi guys... I had kind of the same problem like u...when i plugged it into the usb all i got was a "unknown usb device found" I opened the external case hoping the hdd was still ok only to find out that the hdd cables had been moved slightly out of position..propably from a fall or a knock I didn't even noticed.. I just pressed them back in..click..and everything was back to normal..
These sites have info about how to open the external case.. http://rebootdaily.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-to-open-western-digital-my-book.html
i not able to add-delete or format the usb device
