It has worked OK for 18months, It did seem to be recording subtitiles so I re-ran Auto Set Up and most signal Qualitiy were 10 and signal strengths were around 5 (as before) but every channel is No Service (Not no signal) I am thinking odf re setting to shipping status but fear I will lose all recorded programs
SOURCE: Cable box, digital service, channels not appearing
connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.

I restarted 'Auto setup' this deletes the channel settings (which had presumably been corrupted) and re-installed them from the incoming signal.

Try unplugging the DMR-E85 power cord. It is important that you unplug it from the back of the recorder, not the wall. Leave it unplugged for 10 or 15 minutes. For good measure disconnect the cable 'in' connection as well. Once both lines are plugged back in it will go through its self-check diagnostics. Leave it alone for awhile (give it time to consider the error of it's ways). If you are lucky, when you turn it back on it will ask you to verify the channel lineup. If this does work, and all the channel info is correct, press 'enter' (lineup 1 highlighted). Good luck! This is an awesome machine, WHEN IT WORKS!
